Are you having a... ?

slideshow? i'm just curious how common it is. i think it might tend to be more of a trend in specific areas, but i definitely want to have one! one of my cousins had one and also a couple of friends have had some at their weddings. i think it will be really cute and fun to put together and a great keepsake, too.

some friends have put them on projectors before/during the reception, but another friend just had a tv on the side near the bar during the reception that was playing it (next to the guestbook table). i think i might do that so not everyone is forced to watch it.

i'm just starting to gather pictures, but last night we went over to Dan's parents' house for the superbowl, and his mom let me look through 4 boxes of pictures. i think i took about 200 pictures from them, and it was SO much fun looking through  them all. i only got to about age 14 or so, but i figure once i get to highschool, i'll start having pictures of us and then it will go faster because i know which ones i like.

it's so much fun seeing Dan as a little kid! i had seen a few pictures that he had kept in his room when I was helping him pack when we moved in together, but i never saw any younger than age 6 or so. have you looked through pictures of your FI when he was younger?

Re: Are you having a... ?

  • we will be - FI insists on it lol
I hate old pics of me - well from the age of about 9-16 :P
We are big about photos so it makes sense, and everyone loves a reasonably timed slideshow (nothing too long!!).
My only concern is that it doesn't really "suit" our venue. I'm thinking of just have a table top frame run pictures, and do the projection thing at our Jack  & Jill party this summer.

  • FMIL is putting one together for us to play at our rehearsal dinner. There really isnt a good place for it at our venue and she wants to put it to music so the rehearsal dinner option worked better for us.

  • We'll be doing one too! FI also insists! lol We haven't started on it yet though and are not sure just when during the reception we will play it.

  • No, we are not.  We have about 2 maybe 3 pictures of us together.  I don't have any pictures from age 10 on.  I pretty much hate myself and don't want to see pictures of me anywhere.

FI, doesn't really have many pictures either.

I have seen a slide show done 4-5 times since 2007.  If it's not crazy long then I say its nice.  Not everyone will watch, but others will love it.

My cousin got married in September, and her photog had a slide show of the wedding ceremony up when everyone sat down for dinner and througout the night would sneak in reception pictures..

Our photographers is hoping to have some additional big screens to have set up at our venue so that guests can view the pics from the ceremony and a live feed of our photos. Then they can scroll through shots of the night as well.
    That would be cool :)

this is pretty cool, i totally didn't think of that! i don't know if it would be possible for us, but it sounds pretty fun.

meech- i'm jealous your FI wants one. Dan is ok with it, but he isn't super crazy about it. he doesn't like the pictures of himself in highschool, so he wants it to only be young pictures. there's no way i'm only doing that though, because i want pictures of US too.

  • Down here it is almost standard at rehearsal dinners and it is set to music.  In my experience it gets more attention in that setting because you have a smaller group and it's a group that will actually appreciate the hard work you put into it.  Usually not a dry eye in the room after all the sentimental pics.  :) I have also seen it played again at the reception, without the music, off to the side (sometimes continously) so those not at the rehearsal dinner can still see it, but not be forced to watch it.  We are having a destination wedding, so I am thinking we will play it at the Welcome Party instead of at the RD since the RD will just be immediate family & bridal party.

  • Not at our actual wedding, but at our AHR we may have a slideshow playing from the wedding.  It will be in an area where people can watch if they want, but not forced.  I hate having to sit and watch a slideshow of the couple growing up.  Maybe because I'm social and I would rather talk.

Just because you saw it on Four Weddings, doesn't mean it's a good idea.
  • I won't be. The venue wanted an extra $1500 to rent the projector and screen lol
  • We thought about it. My brother is really good at making slide shows, so we were thinking about asking him if he could make us one.

<div>LOL! No, his name is Mark! And that would be too funny!!</div>
  • We're not. I've never actually heard of these until TK. I feel like a weirdo now. =P
  • FMIL wants to do one at the rehearsal dinner, but we are totally against it.  She would want to stand up with a mic during the entire thing and talk about "How adorable is little Cary in this shot? Oh and this one is when he was 13 and I had all his teeth ground down and put veneers on them so my family photos wouldn't be ruined by braces..." (yes, she is crazy).

We just told her the space couldn't accomidate a projector (it can).

  • We more than likely will. I'm thinking about displaying it during the cocktail hour.

  • We won't be because FI hates pictures of himself and also there are hardly any from when he was age 6 to about 16.  Meanwhile my mom has thousands.  I don't want it to be one-sided.  We have free range of 3 projectors in our ballroom.  The back wall has these ugly controls for the sound and projectors as well as fire exit doors which I do want to cover.  So instead I think we are going to just pick 2 pics we like of us and leave them on the outside ones and "Kathryn & Radhi  September 29, 2012" on the middle one.  So they will be big picture frames more than projectors screens.
  • We're doing a photobook guestbook, so people that want to look through all the pics can either before the ceremony or at the reception, and those guests that don't care can just sign and move on.

Just this past Sunday, FI and I visited his parents and I got to look through lots of pics of him and his family throughout the years, so darn cute! I don't know how we'll narrow down enough to have a reasonably sized book!
