Wedding Ideas on a budget

Hi all,

My fiance and I are trying to plan a wedding in May of 2014 on a budget. We have around 200 guest and would like to have the wedding in and around Philadelphia/Bucks/Montgomery county. We would very much like to have a family-style sit down dinner where everyone at a table is able to share main dishes and BYOB. We know a bartender who will help us with service and would like to provide that ourselves as well. We have been looking around Chinese wedding banquet halls, but the reviews on their services are not great. For the venue rental fee and caterer, we were hoping not to spend over $16K. We definitely want a good caterer who will serve the food hot from the kitchen. We were hoping to receive some good ideas on venue and/or catering services from everyone.

Many thanks,
Jenny & Kerry

  • I think you could afford Spring Mill Fire Hall in Conshohocken. They work with Gil's caterer, which has very good italian food. not sure if you could bring in own booze, but you may not need to. they just recently redid the hall.

  • BYOB may be your downfall. Lots of these places have insurance restrictions which won't let you bring in your own liquor. We're doing my daughter's wedding at the Ballrooms at Boothwyn, easy access from 95. Choice of larger room or a smaller room with an extra room for  your cocktail hr. or dancing. The food is good. The owners are great. If you're looking for some DIY ideas try http://diyweddingplanning.blogspot.com. They aren't selling anything just a group of ideas for brides to choose what suits them. I love blogs like that.
  • Yang Ming in Bryn Mawr hosts receptions, has awesome food (can probably do family style) and I believe they're BYO.  And it's definitely within your budget.
