Kids at the wedding.

I'm having kids at my reception and I need some ideas for fun activities. Any thoughts?

The coordinator at the Valley Dale said they had a bride who had a magician come in and keep the kids entertained.  I was throwing around the idea of having Santa come (our wedding is a week before Christmas), but I don't know if I want the hassel of figuring that all out.  Also, fun food (like an ice cream bar) is always a hit.

We had kids at our wedding, although most were older. There are a lot of ideas out there. For our 2 FG's and RB, we incorporated fun things (coloring books and crayons) into their gifts. There are a lot of fun templates for coloring books online or you could just buy some at the Dollar Store. It isn't really your job to entertain them, even though it is definitely nice to do so the parents can enjoy themselves, too. If they are really young, the parents might just get a sitter. It also depends on where your reception is. Ours was at a country club, so they were allowed to play ball and stuff on the grass. I told the parents to bring balls and outdoor toys if they wanted to  play outside.

I am only inviting family kids. The dance floor is large at my venue and I think I am going to set up a kids table in the corner with games and coloring books, etc. I'm not going too elaborate with it, just giving the kids a place where they can be goofy and have fun.

We really didn't plan anything (not sure if that is horrible?) but the kids just danced with us and it was awesome. They all had a great time (well.... per their parents) and were completely pooped out the next day. There was also an outdoor area and they went out with their families and ran around.

I think we're doing a kids table of sort with coloring and maybe a couple other activities but as a parent...my son's favorite thing about weddings was dancing!  I brought along toys for him and whatnot but he wanted to see family, converse with others, and dance - just as the adults were.
