First off-registry gift, but I LOVE it!

I came home to a new package the other day, and opened it so I could send a thank you note. It's not from our registry, so I was skeptical because I have heard some horror stories. To my surprise, one of my cousins bought us custom beer glasses with my new last name on them! They are so cute. Love!

Have you ladies gotten any off registry items that you really like?

<div>I know many, many couples put a lot of time and effort into their registries. My FI and I just gave it our best shot while on a train one day. We're thrilled every time we get something on or off of our registry because it means our guests are thinking about us.</div><div>
</div><div>My favorite so far has been a beautiful Nambe serving tray. I can use it for anything, and it's elegant and interesting to the eye.</div><div>
</div><div>Our funniest off-registry presents have been salad bowls--especially because we had already gotten one off of our registry. However, in my opinion, one can never have too many wooden salad bowls (I say that now: we're at 3--I might take it back if more show up.) so we're going to keep, display, and use all of them!</div>
  • My favorite was the piece of slate my mom had made up with celtic knots and my grandmother's Irish Soda Bread recipe.  It's really special.

Also not on my registry but very loved:
*Fine china set (I didn't register for any because I had registered for a really awesome everyday set, but I was surprised with both complete sets)
*Mini cupcake maker and giant cupcake mold (both from one of my friends, who wrote "for when you want a little treat OR a big treat" on the tag)
*A welcome mat for each season (from a friend who wrote "For the best feeling in the world, coming home to the man you love" on the tag...yeah, both of those friends shopped together, in case that wasn't already obvious!)

My parents mounted antique silver spoons on velvet in a shadow box.  Two from Greece (for DH's ancestry) one each from Ireland, France and Germany (for mine) one from Cleveland where we met and one from Philadelphia where we married.

I also looooooooooved DH's aunt for buying us towels that were so ridiculously expensive we didn't put them on the registry.  I don't even care that they clash with the color schemes in his bathroom and my bathroom.

  • FI grew up in Arkansas, and one of his parent's friends bought a decorative bowl from a pottery person (potter?) that makes clay bowls from one of the clay mountains in AR and it is BEAUTIFUL and very meaningful.
  • My Great Aunt made us a blanket. It is beautiful and so personal.

  • I have a lot of crafty family members, so I'm looking forward to off-registry gifts. I've seen some beautiful things made for weddings and showers.

Cwaggoner you're getting married in FOUR DAYS!! :)

  • We received a  gorgeous Tiffany weave rectangular tray that I absolutely love. I didn't register for many decorative things because our place is small, but I am very glad my friend sent it to us.
