Coffee Question!

Hi Everyone, I am wondering what everyone thinks about whether coffee is essential with dessert. My wedding is for 125 people on a 10,000.00 budget, which is not easy to do, and I am looking for ways to save everywhere I can. Is it necessary? Renting the saucers and cups alone is like 120.00. What do we think? Can I get away with this? Kelly

Re: Coffee Question!

  • I think a lot of people will miss coffee.  Can you rent mugs instead (maybe 1 piece would be less expensive than 2 pieces)?
  • I agree that coffee would be missed. Working in a reception hall myself we get a lot of coffee drinkers later at night for receptions. The receptions where we havent had it, several people will usually ask for it. I personally wouldn't skip it.

I cannot fathom drinking coffee at night!  That would be a disaster for me, so I wouldn't miss it.  I don't know anyone who does drink coffee at night except for older folks.
  • When I host dinner parties, i don't offer coffee, because I don't drink coffee, so I don't have a coffee maker. People still come to my dinner parties.

When my parents host dinner parties, they offer coffee with dessert, and about half our guests take coffee. But my family never has coffee in the evening without guests.

At church evening potluck dinners, I don't think the kitchen committee makes coffee.

The business luncheons and dinners I attend all always have coffee, but few have alcohol.

All of which is to say, it's probably expected, but I think it's OK to skip. I don't consider coffee among the food and drink needs you're required to meet for your guests.
  • We didn't offer coffee with cake (our only dessert) but we also cut our cake early in the night so the rest of the night was open to dancing.

  • Depending on what your caterer charges, we had coffee for 100 people, it was about $65 for the coffee, sugar, cream, etc. It was set up when the cake was served..........but we offered carry-out cups, so if they wanted to, they could take it with them. We had glasses & china for the meal, but this was a money saver for us. I guess it depends on the age of your guests and what they expect.
  • Coffee would be missed! I always look forward to it after a meal.
  • I reallllllly don't think you should skip coffee.  People will miss it!
