Hilton Room Blocks

Have any of you ever booked room blocks at a Hilton? It's kind of weirding me out because you HAVE to do it through their online HHonors system (according to their sales associate). I know that having to provide a credit card to reserve the rooms is normal, but there is a lot of fine print, so I just thought I would see if anyone has had any good/bad experiences with booking through them.

It looks to me that the only reason they would charge my card is if I decided to pay for everyone's rooms and then cancelled some after the release date. However, there is also some wording that makes me think that if guests don't pay with their own CC upon checkout that my CC will be charged. I don't know...maybe I'm being overly paranoid. Help?

ETA: Ok, I re-read that part and it actually just sounds like the above circumstance would only be if I decided to confirm some rooms on behalf of my guests. Then they would have the option to pay at checkout, or use my CC. How scary. I mean, I love my family, but there's no way....haha.

I did Hilton Garden Inn, and didnt run into any of the above. They just let me tell them how many rooms I needed and we were good to go.

I went through Homewood Suites and we signed a contract and faxed it in. Not liable for any rooms that we didn't book. It was just for a hold--but we did have to include a CC.

Is this because you are using points or getting points? Did you call the hotel directly?

Make sure you are going through their events coordinator for rooms (each hotel should have one on staff), not the 800 generic booking line.

I did Doubletree, which also uses HHonors. We had to provide a credit card number, but they released any unsold rooms.

I used Homewood Suites but I didn't have to give a credit card to hold anything. I just let them know how many rooms I needed and signed. We're not liable for any not booked.

I also put in a request for a block at Hilton Garden Inn and it was the same process -- no CC, didn't do it online through the website, no charge for unused rooms.

She ended up e-mailing me the info and our options were to hold rooms via the online process or to sign a contract with them, but that required booking at least 80% of the rooms (and if not, we would have to pay for the difference) so I definitely didn't want to do that. </div><div>
