Opinions on ceremony site

We have an indoor hall booked for reception but are doing our ceremony outside. We found a picnic shelter that we really like. The shelter is a story up and the view is amazing from it. The only way up to the shelter is stairs. The seating for the ceremony would also have to be picnic tables because they can't be moved. Is it okay to have a ceremony site that can only be reached by stairs and picnic tables as seating?

Re: Opinions on ceremony site

  • I see you're from Toledo too, is this place local?  I'm just curious where you are looking at?  Oak Opennings maybe?

Anyway, assess your guest list.  Are any of your guests unable to use stairs?  If you have someone in a wheelchair or that just can't walk very well, be prepared that they likely will not be able to make it.

As for the picnic tables?  Eh, I wouldn't like it.  It would take away much of the formality of a ceremony I think.  However, if you go this route, it's not like you won't be married at the end of the ceremony or anything.  It's really up to you.  Is this in a park?  Maybe you could be married elsewhere in the park and just use this shelter in case it rains.

I agree with this. I wouldn't be crazy about picnic tables, but at least it would be some sort of seating. A lot of brides don't find seating necessary for outdoor weddings sometimes, which is totally wrong.
  • I'm not 100% fond of the picnic tables but anything can be worked around. My future sister inlaw said that they can be decorated.

  • You could make/buy pretty cushions to go on the picnic table seating and then put table clothes over the tables.  Maybe scatter pictures of you and your husband-to-be on each table that your guests can look at before the ceremony.  If it's going to be really hot maybe have pitchers of ice water at the tables for the guests to enjoy during the ceremony.
  • I think it could work out great if you want a really cute and sweet outsoorsy feeling at your wedding! If you're hoping for a more formal setting, I'm not sure if there's anyway to do that with picnic tables. A formal wedding isn't the only way to have a beautiful wedding though!!! :)
