I tried finding a board that dealt with this question..but had no luck..maybe i wasn't looking hard enough..anways..the whole horse and carraige..cinderella style worth it? I'm sure it looks absolutely beautiful in pictures and just riding in this thing down to the church/hall your getting married in..but man..this has got to be a pretty penny i take it..

  • No.  If I had unlimited funds for a wedding it still wouldn't be worth it.  I don't think that a wedding should look like a Disney kiddie movie.  Ever.  Under any circumstances.
"Trix, it's what they/our parents wanted. Why so judgemental? And why is your wedding date over a year and a half ago? And why do you not have a groom's name? And why have you posted over 12,000 posts? And why do you always say mean things to brides?" palegirl146
  • No. It seems like something a 5 year old would want for her birthday not something a grown woman should want for her wedding.

  • It was included in the rental at one venue we looked at, but I don't think it's worth the money to actually go and book it.

I'd feel kind of silly doing it, honestly.

Enchanted came out right around the time DH and I started dating (we saw it on our second date), and Disneyland did a pre-parade with Giselle riding a horse-drawn carriage down the parade route.  I'll never forget the day DH and I were standing at the top of the train station steps waiting to be able to clock out, and watched as the horse paused right in front of us and took a MASSIVE dump.

Never work with children or animals.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • I would never pay for something like that. Now if I booked a venue that included it in the package we booked, maybe ... but even at that, it wouldn't really be a selling point to the package, imo.

  • i have given myself permission to 'splurge' on one aspect of my wedding. I will be ordering baseballs with our wedding date on them --this will cost me about 350. So normally i would think it is rediculous but it is something that i really want. If you really want a horse and carriage go for it but just remember if you dont have that paricular aspect you can spend that money somewhere else. The wedding is about you and your fiance talk to him about it.

i personally do not think it is worth it, i flashback to a particular bridezillas episode.

I think it depends on your style as well as the venue. I've seen some beautiful winter country weddings where a horse and sleigh was beautiful and practical. Middle of NYC....can't see it so much. I would love to have a horse and carriage, but cannot see a point as a) it's a wedding in town(small town but still a town) b)everything is at the same venue c)cash....can't see spending cash on that, I'd rather save it and use it towards the bar or take a trail ride in the spring and get my horsey fix that way.

ETA I'm thinking horse and carriage/sleigh in a vintage/country feel, not a disney kid movie feel, but yeah

<div>My thoughts exactly. It's very corny, and if I saw a bride ride up to the ceremony or reception in it I would have a hard time controlling my eye rolling and laughter. </div><div>

  • If horses are a shared interest for the 2 of you (you met playing polo, you both  participate in competitive team driving, something like that), it wouldn't seem out of place. Otherwise, it seems way too Disney Princess to me.
  • If we had lots of extra money, we'd do it.  Our reception venue is a renovated brownstone (at least I think that's what it's called) from pre-Civil War days.  For us it would "fit".

I also just love riding in horse (or mule) drawn carriages.  FI surprised me with one to tour historic Charleston.
  • Horses poop a lot. Not to be so blunt, but do you want to be stepping over horse poop in your white dress? I like the romantic idea of the horse and carraige, but in reality it will probably be less than romantic.
  • Only you can answer if it's worth it to you.

If you're having an indoor wedding, it would seem kind of pointless to ride in the carriage BEFORE the ceremony - everyone is inside and wouldn't be able to see you.  What would make more sense is to have it AFTER the ceremony to take you and your new husband to the reception venue (assuming that it's only a couple of blocks away).

I have seen horse & carriage (the "regular" kind, not the Cinderella carriage) done often for outdoor weddings, often when the bride would otherwise have a long walk to the ceremony area which would be complicated by a dress with a train.  It's actually quite romantic looking.

I have been at one wedding where a Cinderella carriage was used.  Most people felt that it was a bit over the top.  Just way too little girl / Disney.

I think its a cute idea ( yes, I'm a fiver year old when it comes to Disney princess-esque things...) but WICKED expensive.
And it's funny Cat24, I can SO see it for the middle of NYC... CP has them.  Maybe going down to after reception dinner all dressed up and get some pictures (and go for the ride) then?
*CP - central park, I realized not everybody (or anybody) knows my short hand

  • i think its a waste of money and i agree that horses poop, and fart. and if it were the cinderella type, i would immediately think the bride is immature, has effed up priorities and is attention whore.

i can see them as others have stated in a park, on a ranch, something where you might see horses/carrages, but not the pumpkin shaped cinderella one.
