I am that dork

Who picked a date three months away from engagement. And so, I have no venue and am having issues finding something affordable and available. I will introduce myself after this post, I promise.
So does anyone have any ideas? We are planning for December 15th. Whatever time of day we can get. I'm new to the area, just moved in with FI two weeks ago from AZ and IDK where to look! His momma is very helpful and so are his sisters in law, but they admit they don't know EVERY option, though his mom was a wedding planner it was years ago.
Also, I am considering making my own dress, but that might just be the sudafed talking. Whee!

Re: I am that dork

  • Are you set on Dec 15? Is there a particular reason? If there is a way to change it, maybe you should, since you seem stressed out.
I planned our wedding in 7 months, and that was pretty stressful, and I really never got a break. Doesn't mean it can't be done, but it will probably be near impossible to plan a Saturday wedding in December in 3 months. Most places in Dallas book up 9 months out anyways, plus with the holiday season you are competing with company Christmas parties as well.
  • I'm not too set on the 15th. We do want it by the end of the year, though, for a few reasons. The biggest of those being taxes! We want to be able to file jointly to claim the kids. I have three. And since he's been having taxes wthheld ad the single rate all year, it could mean a big refund, or at least not owing, which would be awesome. I just checked my email and the heard museum is available on the 16th so I am going to have to ask him how he feels about a Sunday. Also, the 22nd but my daughter's birthday is the 19th and xmas is only 3 days after,  so... idk.
  • I just know that our Christmas party is already planned at my company, so it may be more difficult. The most important thing to book first is a venue, and that will be the most difficult thing. I would try to get a venue that includes the catering, just because caterers will be very busy that time of year as well.
Stick around, as we have lots of vendor suggestions and can be a big help!
  •  We are planning on doing a lot of the stuff ourselves just because of hte busy time of year. Platters from local restaurants, etc. We've found a few places that offer tables and chairs along with the venue, so we're hoping to find one of those that is available.
I'll keep my eye out here! thanks!
  • What area are you looking for?
  • I planned my entire wedding in two months. It can be done, but I grew a ton of gray hair ;).

  •  I think we found a place! Reflections on Spring Creek in Plano. And with that, most of the planning is done. We're going with a Friday night event, to save some cost and for availability. So excited!
  • Another girl on these boards, Angelsong, had a Friday wedding at Reflections back in May.
