Wedding Invitations & Paper

Hello Post Office - me gain - I hate you!

VENT!

Positive: Invitations are out.

Negative: I went to the post office on Friday with a complete invitation to ask them how much postage I need on them.  The gentlement weighed it and told me $0.61.  Great.  I confirm that there is no extra charge to hand cancel.  Great.  I confirm that there is no other additional charge.  Great.
I would like to buy postage.  He tells me that they don't have the $0.61 stamps there but I can try another post office 20 miles away.  Ok fine.  Saturday I find them at a post office 5 miles from home.  Score!
Present day - I go in today with all invites stamped and request to mail them and have them hand cancelled.  The woman tells me that there is an extra fee because they are non machinable.  I tell her I was in on Friday to confirm the cost and a gentleman told me that it was $0.61.  She laughs and tells me they have no males working there! WTH!  I proceeed to tell her that he was standing in the very spot she was.  She insists they have no "gentleman" mocking the work I used.  I insist that he was a very short asian man.  She then says, "Ooooh, Danny. He barely ever works he doesn't know."  Ummmm, well then why the f!@* was he working the counter!  The manager comes out, I'm pissed after having tracked down the stamps I need so that I didn't have to place a zillion ugly stamps on each envelope to be told that not only do I have to put an extra $0.20 on each but that they only have $0.44 cent stams so I'll have to pay over double.  All this because of the adhesive from the Michaels invites that attaches the invite to the pocketfold.  Not the extra monogram I used or having thick paper....no, the adhesive.  I HATE THEM!

  • Deep breath.

This is why I recommend going to not one, but TWO DIFFERENT post offices to double check.  Seriously.  And then go with the higher priced one.

Too late now, but I think you could have returned the stamps on the spot and gotten ones that were closer to the right price - provided you hadn't applied them yet.

Again - not saying this to double the pain, but more to forewarn and forearm other brides who haven't mailed theirs yet.

  • I know....ladies beware of the evil post office!!

PS my post was supposed to say "me again" not "me gain" LOL but in my fury I failed to spell check!

I had already applied all of the stamps....of course.  I wanted to come with them applied so that I could go on my break and just have them sent since I knew I'd be pressed for time.  Sure enough doing it all ahead of time did not payoff.  :(
  • On the bright side, though, THEY'RE DONE, right?
