Is it ok to delete registry items to hope for more cash gifts?

FI and I talked about how we really don't need like 50 different kitchen eletronics and more importantly really have no room for them. We were thinking that since my showers are now over, that we would scale down our registry significantly and only leave the stuff on there we genuinely want and need. We would much rather have cash than "things" and since you can't write that out anywhere, we thought by having a smaller selection of registry items it would give people a clue. We still have most of our china set and crystal glasses on there and other things (probably about 60 registry items left) Is it ok to do this?

  • No one would know except you and your FI so delete whatever you want.  You're entitled to change your mind.
  • I think it's completey fine. Lots of people edit their registries after their showers, and no one has to know your real intentions for doing it. If I were a guest at your wedding and logged onto your registry before your shower and saw a lot of gifts, and then noticed most of them gone afterward, I probably wouldn't even think twice about it. I'd probably just assume you either got a lot of them via mail or whatever, or you just changed your mind. No biggie.

I mean, technically they would never know that there's a small amount of registry items because you want cash gifts. You can do it, but it might not guarantee you'll get money instead. Some people prefer giving actual gifts than money and you could risk the chance of someone getting you a gift you really don't want, or double of one of your registry gifts. Go for it if you'd like, I just hope it doesn't go much differently than you might have expected.

  • Yes I think it is fine to do it.  No one will ever know but you guys.

  • I did this. I edited my registries after my shower to only include items I really wanted or needed. I got rid of the items I liked but didn't want that badly or might not use very often.  I would do this sooner than later. Your guests will be looking at your registries pretty soon if they haven't already.
  • I was changing stuff (adding and deleting) basically daily for about a month there haha. Do whatever you want with your registry, but Nati does have a point that if you make it too small, you may end up with random stuff you don't want.

  • We did this.  We dwindled down what we really wanted and needed.  So we pretty much just have our BB&B registry left...
  • We cut down a few of our items after the shower.  I totally would do it if I was you, we don't have much left on the registries except bedding and dishes and some smaller items.
