Did you buy a dress that was totally different than what you thought you wanted?

I went dress shopping for the first time, and the styles I thought I'd love (sheath and fit-and-flare), I didn't!  AND, the style I was absolutely against (ball-gowns), I LOVED!  I tried ONE ball gown on.  It was the last one I tried, and it was "just for fun".  I'm 5'2" and I thought it would overwhelm me.  But when I stepped in front of the mirror, I was shocked at how much I loved it.  My MOH and FMIL are convinced it's "the one" and as of right now I'm totally in agreement.  I'm just wondering how many other girls this happened to?

Yeah I think it is fairly normal.   I know it happened to me :)   If you think you found the one then I would get it and stop looking.  You don't want to fall in love with another dress and have to make a hard decision.   HTH

Yep! I thought I wanted something along the lines of Panina Torne but I didn't like anything that was too full I also really liked a lot of Essence of Australia but A-line dresses didn't do it for me either. I ended up with trumpet gown which I thought I would never look good in but I do lol

I ended up with one I originally thought I'd like, however my MOH did the exact same thing happen to her as you did. Her ball gown is gorgeous!

I think that happens a lot! I didn't have a clear idea of what I wanted before I went shopping but once I was there I was surprised at the ones I liked and the ones I didn't. If you are thinking about it all the time...it's probably the one!

I never thought I could wear a fitting gown, but my consultant pulled a fit and flare type style and I was amazed that I actually looked good in that style.  I went in saying I did NOT want a ballgown and guess what I came out with... haha I think it's completely normal to buy a dress in a style you never thought you'd want. Congrats on finding your dress!

I agree-- I told my consultant I wasn't afraid to try anything on... because things look SO much different on!  I ended up with a dress I LOVE and I saw it on someone else first to know that I loved it!

Yep!  I think it's pretty common.

Well, considering the fact that I get online to look at it several times a day... I'm pretty sure it's "the one".  I showed my mom the pics tonight, and she likes it.  We're hoping to go Monday so I can try it on for her.  I was just so sure I knew what I wanted, but I promised I'd try anything on... and I'm so glad I did!

For the longest time, I was set on not even getting married in a wedding dress at all. I wanted to go to Vegas, wear a cute little cocktail dress and have Elvis marry us, haha! But the plans changed, and I decided to go try on dresses for fun with my friends and to my suprise, I fell in love with a long, white, perfect gown. It's completely the opposite of anything that I would have ever wanted originally, but I can't imagine ever getting married without it now.

Oh, yeah! I'm getting married outside, on a mountain, and was sure I would be walking down the aisle in a flowy, free-spirit concoction. Surprise! What's hanging in my closet right now is an A-line satin, and I'll even be wearing a slilp under it to make it poof out a bit. Turns out the flowy, Grecian-style stuff did NOT look good on me. This one gives me a shape.
