Happy Monday!

How was everyone's weekend?

My Saturday was busy, but in the evening we met up with friends and went out for dinner and then went to the "lounge" afterwards - we were the youngest ones there by about 20 years, and the band was called the "Geeze Cats" (or something, like "geezer, lol,) and we got called out for being young a couple times, haha. But that was fun.

Then yesterday DH and I drove 3 hours away to go to a concert in my hometown, which was prettty fun, then went with friends to a great restaurant for dinner, (great to see people i hardly see anymore!) then stopped by my parents and surprised them for a bit.
Overall, a great weekend! (We sound like social butterflies, haha... we're trying to keep in mind that hopefully not all that long from now we will probably have kids, and then won't be able to do random things like take day-road trips!)

Re: Happy Monday!

  • Sounds like a fun weekend!  H and I also talk about trying to take trips and do fun things with just the two of us in the next year or two, since after that (hopefully) we'll have kids, and that just won't be as easy.

Minus the cold cold weather, my weekend was pretty fun. I went over to a co-worker's house for awhile on Friday night, and H and I had tickets to a college basketball game on Saturday and then grabbed dinner afterward.  Last night I had dinner with a few friends, and one friend mentioned that she and her husband may start trying to have a baby in the next few months.  I'm SO excited for them!
  • My weekend was a bit annoying...ruined by an early visit from AF.  I need to talk to my doctor since the meds aren't really helping anything, and actually some symptoms are getting worse.  I just don't know if I have the energy for this anymore!

This week I'm looking forward to things settling down.  Christmas always throws me off a bit, since there are days off work, lots of parties, messes being made, etc.  And then with my grandmother passing, I really didn't get a chance to regroup after Christmas.  I feel so disorganized lately, so this week I want to really focus on getting myself organized and back into a normal routine.

  • Hugs, Resa! That is sooo annoying about your cycle... Prayers that your doc can help figure out what is going on!

  • Resa, that really stinks about your cycle.  I hope your doctor will be able to help you get things figured out a bit more, I know it's really been a struggle for you.  Hugs!
  • Thanks girls!  I sound like a broken record, I know, but this is seriously something that impacts my life a lot.  I am worried my good friend is mad at me for cancelling plans with her on Sat night, but I was seriously in so much pain I couldn't imagine driving, socialzing, standing or even sitting up...I just couldn't do it.  It's sad because I think people sometimes think "oh, that's just a lame excuse..." and they don't realize that for some women, cramps are seriously painful.

  • Oh, Resa, so many hugs and prayers. You know I'm always around if you need to vent. :)

I also know what you mean about feeling disorganized after the holidays. I enjoy them, but it always takes awhile to settle back into day-to-day life. I feel like this is the first day that I see normal, settled on my horizon.

That's probably in part because we had a quiet weekend. H did a bunch of chores that we've been wanting to do, but are just lower priority -- cleaning out, reorganizing, etc. We also took our first babyproofing steps, so we're feeling good about that. Not too exciting, but sometimes, those weekends are just needed, ya know.

  • I definitely appreciate those productive weekends!

  • I had a really rough Sunday from about 5:30-onward.  H's dog started vomiting and then collapsed.  She couldn't stand at all.  It was terrifying.  Of course it was a weekend that H didn't get to come home, so I had to load her in my car on my own (she's 50 lbs), find an emergency vet, and get her there, all while crying hysterically.  I called a really close friend and managed to tell him where I was going and asked him to meet me there because I was convinced this dog was dying and I could. not. be alone if I had to euthanize her.

She's doing a lot better as of this morning.  When I went in to see her she could stand and even jumped over the little wall of her enclosure to get out, so it's clear she's getting better.  They just don't know what caused the problem.  They originally blamed something called hemorrhagic gastroenteritis, but tests for that came back negative.  Sometime last night they realized she had zero clotting factors in her blood, so they did an ultrasound of her liver and couldn't find anything.  They can't biopsy the liver if her blood won't clot, and they can't test that until early tomorrow morning.

I'm feeling a lot better.  The vets, while not sure what the problem is, don't seem to think it's a fatal disease or anything, so I'm trying to remain calm.  But I am physically and emotionally exhausted.  I'd wake up in the middle of the night unable to fall asleep, so I was very thankful for the 24-hour animal ICU so that I could call and check up on her anytime.

  • Prof, I'm so sorry you had to go through that!  I can't imagine how stressful that must have been, esp considering you're pregnant.  I'm glad she seems to be doing better, and I hope she gets to come safely home soon!  What terrible luck it happened while your H was gone!

  • Oh man Prof - it's so scary when things happen with pets.  Especially because they can't TELL you how they're feeling or what's wrong, so you just have to rely on your vet to be able to figure it out.  I'm so glad to hear that your H's dog is feeling better already, and hopefully they can find out what's wrong soon.  Hugs and prayers for you, H, and the fur-baby!

Oh my goodness, Prof! That is terrifying! I hope she is ok!

That reminds me of a totally random story... A friend of mine was dogsitting for someone who was in Italy, and the dog ate her phone, and she couldn't get ahold of the owner, and had to decide if she should spend some ridiculous amount of money, I think it was like 5 grand, to do surgery on the dog to save it's life! (She did.)
