NWR: Chaging jobs

I mentioned wanting to find a new job within a month. Recap: I can work at McDonald's and make better money than where I am at here. Plus they have benefits. (Not that I am not looking for better ones, they are hard to come by right now. I am seriously going to apply at some fast food places just to get out of here for now. I would like a waitressing job eventually because I can make bank in tips!)

I am really going to miss a few of my regulars at the hotel. :( I am very close with two of my regulars. They are a married couple, both doctors from Chicago. They stay quite a bit. They know I have been looking for a new job, but they were really sad when I told them I probably wouldn't see them at the hotel again. It makes me want to cry! I gave them my email address and they gave me permission to take theirs from their reservations, but it won't be the same.

I guess there isn't really a point to this, I am just sad.

Re: NWR: Chaging jobs

  • It's always hard to leave anywhere that still has upsides!  I couldn't stand any of my retail jobs at the end, but I really miss the people I worked with - I go back and visit now and again, though.

I hope the new job works out for you; that really is crazy that you could be making more at McD's than at the hotel.  Good luck with your hunt - it might take a while, but I'm sure you'll find something that's a really good fit for you (and makes you way more dough! Haha).

  • I still miss people from 4 jobs ago. It sucks when you can't even see them anymore.
  • I just applied to two different jobs on craigslist. One is a dishwasher at a nice restaurant (with potential to move up to cook soon. Tips and free food.) and I applied for a receptionist position at a cosmetic surgery office.

Abbe- It really is sad, huh? I make $8 an hour and I have been here for almost 3 years! I am not really leaving due to money, it is mostly the atmosphere and a manager that can't do her job and makes situations worse. I love what I do though, it will be hard. :(

  • Sometimes change is good.  Even though it's hard, it will be better for you in the end.  Good luck Smile
  • It's definitely hard to leave a job where you have regulars, I deifnitely still miss my regulars from the restaurant.  However, there are always upsides to changing jobs and I can say for sure that I'm happier and less stressed now then while I worked at the restaurant.  You just need to do what is right for you!
  • I can definitely see and understand why leaving can be hard.  I still miss people that I worked with back in '06.  If you can visit them sometimes, I recommend that.  It definitely helps.

I'm also looking for a better job right now too for more pay and recognition.  Good luck finding a job and keep us posted.

  • Good luck finding a job that will make you happy!

I know exactyly how you feel as I am going through this right now.  I will definitely miss my coworkers and some of my clients.  Ultimately, you need to do what is best for your and what will make you happy.
