Glasses??

Does anyone wear glasses, but not want to on the big day. I'm trying contacts, but I'm worried that if/when I cry that I'll lose them, lol. Am I being realistic?

Re: Glasses??

  • I've worn contacts for almost 10 years now and I've never had one just fall out, even during crazy sob sessions.  Definitely get some eye drops for the wedding though, sometimes after crying my eyes feel a little bit dry if I have my contacts in.

Why dont you want to wear your glasses? If you have always worn them, I dont see why you would want to change something so significant about your appearance for your wedding....

  • I had a contact fall out once, that was the first day I had them and it wasn't in right. I agree with Michelle, I would get eye drops for the wedding.

I have only worn glasses off and on for the last 3 years. I still can't relate to myself wearing glasses. I've always wanted to try contacts and stick with them, but never had enough motivation; I'm not a fan of touching my eyes, until now.
  • Thanks for the tip about the drops, I will make suer its in my bridal kit :)

How many times did it take for you to get used to wearing them?
  • I wear glasses in class and driving at night but not 24/7. I won't be wearing them at the wedding

<div>I wear glasses and contacts. Contacts won't fall out when you cry :) Go in for an eye appointment and since you are a first time contact wearer they will give you a trial pair to wear for two weeks. You'll see, once you get used to them you don't even notice you're wearing them.</div>

This. I've worn glasses every day of my life since the 4th grade. I'm not taking them off for my wedding day. I wouldn't even look like me if I did that. In ALL of my wedding pictures.

ETA - I see that you don't wear glasses more than you wear them so I would get contacts in your situation.
  • I don't have glasses, but FI does and this is a slight threadjack...

FI had to get new glasses about a year ago and he went through this website called Warby Parker. It's a company sort of like Toms where they give a pair of glasses to a person in need for every pair you buy. They're also super reasonable - $95 including your prescription. It's such a wonderful company that I just had to plug them. I actually wish I wore glasses just so I could have a pair.

  • For contacts, your eye doctor will tell you how to get used to them. For me, I had to start off small, (like only have them in 4 hours a day) and then slowly move up  to all day, but no more than18hrs.

  • I wear glasses all the time, excpet when working at the computer, as does FI. He plans on wearing his contacts. I have never been able to wear contacts, but I don't plan on wearing my glasses for the ceremony. They actually have a huge scratch on them right now and I qualify for a new pair in August, so I'm not replacing them until then. I might put them on for a few photos, but I won't be able to read my vows WITH them on anyway.

  • The contact thing gets a lot easier. I have been wearing them since 6/7th grade. I can put them in and take them out without a mirror. I don't even think about it anymore. So stick with it if you want too.

However, if you like the way you look in your glasses why not wear them?

  • I have worn contacts for 7 years.  I have cried plenty of times and they have not fallen out.
The only time they have fallen out is very rarely if I am super dehydrated and my eyes get really dry.  I think its only happend once or twice.

  • Good luck wearing contacts, OP. I tried to wear them when I first had to get glasses, but they hurt my eyes after I put them in, so I stuck to glasses.
  • I'm wearing my glasses. I've had them for about 20 years and I have to wear them for everything. I don't want to not look like myself on my wedding day.
  • I used to wear glasses/contacts all the time for about 7-8 years before I got lasik.  I've never lost a contact, even when I forgot I had them in and opened my eyes in a lake underwater.  Really, the only time I ever had a contact come out was while rubbing my eye for a while.  As long as you blot your tears you won't have a problem.

Also, if you've never worn contacts before I'd suggest wearing them for a while a few days before to give your eyes time to adjust to them.

  • I alternate probably 50/50 with glasses and contacts.  I'm planning to wear my contacts for the wedding.  I've needed contacts/glasses for about 8 years now and I've always been very 50/50 with them, so most people are used to seeing me both ways.
  • I've had glasses since I was four. I got contacts in high scool but stopped wearing them in college...got lazy. I started wearing them again last month because I didn't want to wear glasses in my wedding picture. I HATE wearing glasses anyway plus I see better with the contacts. It doesn't take long to get used to contacts and they won't fall out unless your eyes get really dry. Good luck!
