I was married at the Thayer but is now divorce and now I am marrying my hs sweetheart. I fell in love with the Thayer.  We had an outside ceremony in October, it was perfect.  Just remember to make sure you tell your guests to bring id, they are so strict.  We actually had an additional insert in our invitation about the id.  If you are having the ceremony there the chairs do cost extra.  I found that out a few weeks before.  We worked with Mike I don't think he is their anymore.

I like bossy's idea to put an additional insert in the invitiations about the security at West Point, bring ID and leave enough time to get through the lines, park and walk to the hotel.

Thanks! Mike isn't there, it's Lexi and Stacy, and Lexi is our coordinator but we've met Stacy and love her too. I didn't know the chairs cost extra for ceremony! Thank you for mentioning that! I'll have to see if that's in the contract. I agree about an extra insert for ID's - we have people traveling so they'll be staying over, so ID's shouldnt be a problem, but I have it on our wedding website and I've been telling my fiance's family even now, and it's not until next July!

    Thanks for your help!!!

You are so lucky Mike doesn't work there anymore, it was not that helpful. Ask about the chairs maybe they changed that, but the onsite fee we were charged was only for the site nothing anything else.
We also had the florist make an arbor, which we were married under and had additonal flowers for the outside ceremony.

Bossy, which florist did you use? We actually are having a Jewish wedding so we need to rent a chuppah from a florist or something like that!

I would not recommend my florist.  Not too impressed.  But we did do low centerpieces for the table because of the low ceiling down stairs and it looked great.  Also, we had hanging ball flowers at the end of each aisle outside.
My friend just got married and used Rockland Florist in Congers.  They did an amazing job and were very reasaonable. I would recommend them!

I had my reception at the Thayer in April 2010.  I loved the Thayer, however my wedding had a few issues.  I believe most of them were because they had just changed over management close to my wedding and they just didn't have their ducks in a row.

My biggest suggestion, is to be clear with them that when you go for your food tasting, that you want the CATERING chef to make your food, not the A LA CARTE chef.  Yes, there are two different chefs, and it is a little deceiving.  Not only did I try food cooked by a different chef than would be cooking for my wedding, but a brand new catering chef started 8 days before my wedding and didn't even know how to make the dishes that I chose :)

Rest assured that the food is good, the ambiance is unmatched, and you will have a beautiful wedding!!!

Let me know if you have any questions!  Congrats on booking the venue!

Mocknine, thank you SO much for posting!! That information is SO helpful!

My fiance and I have really wanted to make sure the cocktail hour and the dessert really represents us as a couple, so I've been thinking up ideas and asking the catering department if they can do them (ex. a slider bar, a french fry bar)... some of the stuff they can and some they can't, but there is a price per person for each thing we suggest! It's adding a lot of extra cost but at the same time we don't want to lose that personal touch. Did you have any of those issues?

Stacy is awesome to work with.  Highly recommend.  Just helped a friend plan a wedding there and she's very easy going and professional.

    Best of luck

Liz, I love Stacy too! We are working with Lexi, but Stacy took us on our first tour there and she definitely was one of the reasons we fell in love with the venue! When is your friend's wedding?

I just saw this, sorry --- it's about $115/person but it's cheaper on Fridays and Sundays I believe!!

Any troubles with the food coming out on time?  When I saw Thayer I was so impressed with it, but I have a wedding that was pretty much at their capacity and they said it was one waiter per two tables.  I got nervous about whether the food service would be slow given the large number and so we booked somewhere else.  Kind of kicking myself for it now.
