Strange Waxing Question...

I'm thinking about waxing for the honeymoon, but I've never done it before. I wanted to see if anyone had any advice of a good salon to go to that's around the metro area. I was hoping to get one for somewhere around $60-$70. TIA!

Where are you thinking of waxing? Bikini line? Underarm? Legs? All of those? Either way, I'd recommend going at least once or twice (so about 2 months out) if you can. That way you will be used to the procedure and will not risk swollen or irritated skin. Plus, the more you wax, the less will grow in afterward, and the less coarse it will be. Pop a few ibuprofen in before you go and just relax. Make sure to purchase some after-wax oil. I don't remember what it is called. But it helps the redness go down dramatically.

I usually see Lynn at Aveda in Roseville. She is fantastic. Otherwise I'm sure more knotties will give you other suggestions in other areas around town!

I'm thinking of doing either bikini or brazilian and possibly legs. I'm not sure about legs because I've heard it doesn't take all of the hair off and you still have to shave? Any advice on that too??

I don't have an answer to your question as I've never waxed, but I just wanted to say that your question isn't strange at all. =)

    Thanks LC! :)

Meagan -- If you are doing a bikini, I would make sure to be prepared to maybe wear more comfortable clothes immediately after. Jeans probably would be uncomfortable for around 24 hours. Brazilians are usually what I do but I'm pretty used to them. If you don't have time to go more than once before the honeymoon, I'd do it about 3 days before. That way the redness has time heal and no hair will have grown in yet.

As far as legs go, I have never had a problem with shaving between. I mean, yeah you have to let it grow back which sucks in the summer, but if you go regularly enough, the hair starts to disappear in spots. I went once a month for almost a year, and now there are spots on my legs that no longer grow hair. My leg hair is also much much lighter and less coarse. It is pretty nice!

@LC-Me too! I just realized I only have a month left so I should really start looking into it but I've been putting it off because I feel weird asking. At least I'm not alone!

@musicalsunlight-thank you for your advice! I'm thinking I have about a month before the wedding so I don't think I really have time to get anything done now until the wedding. I'll make an appointment for a few days before the day and hope I'm not too red.

I have another question-should I bring a razor on my honeymoon? If I have everything (Brazilian, legs, under arms) waxed at the beginning of the week will have started to grow back in by the end of the next week?

I get Brazilians at Spalon in Edina (or custom wax, as they call it), and its about $65.  Sabrina is phenomenal, she is super fast and keeps you distracted.  I also use a product called PFB Vanish afterward for a few weeks, it dries out the skin so you don't get bumps or ingrown hair.  Definitely do it twice before the wedding if you have time - it will last you about 6-8 weeks.  I would say go at 8 weeks out, then again at 5-6 days out.  You need to give it time to heal - if you irritate it too soon, you will be very sorry!!!  Take an ibuprofen before you go too, it really helps :)

I wouldn't worry about feeling embarassed. Its just like going to the doctor, they see body parts every day and don't think anything of it. If they did, it wouldn't be their job! ;) Either way, all estheticians that I've been to have been great about keeping you talking and just feeling like nothing 'odd' is going on.

meagan-- you don't have to bring a razor with you. The hair shouldn't be noticable for at least a week and a half, maybe more.
