Aisle runner? On the beach?

Our ceremony is on the beach, in October.  My mom has started freaking out about my dress getting ruined being dragged on the sand.  Do you think I need an aisle runner?  I don't want to bustle my dress for the ceremony, because its so pretty.  Thoughts?

    Are you planning on taking pictures on the beach as well?  Because if you are, the dress is going to be in the sand either way, and you can't keep the aisle runner under you wherever you go on the beach.  We bought one to use, but were having a difficult time figuring out how to keep it from blowing in the wind and ultimately decided to not use it - didn't miss it at all.  However if you decide to get one we have an aqua runner that has never been used :-)

    Yea, we were gonna take pictures on the beach, and the whole point of the beach wedding was for my feet to be in the sand.  I was just having a hard time trying to convince my mom that I really don't want one.  Your response sort of worked.  She seems to think that I'm going to get sand stuck in my dress or something.  Ugh.  If we do decide, even as a "just in case" I might take you up on your offer.  How much?  Thanks again for your response :-)

    If you were going to use the runner, you may be able to rig it up so you can stake it into the sand.  I had the same thoughts for my ceremony.  Im nervous if the sand is damp my dress is going to get dirty.  Im just praying for nice sunny September weather.  Good luck!

    My dress definitely got dirty, but not enough to be noticable in pictures, and i think it's pretty difficult to keep a train clean no matter where the ceremony is, even floors are not spotless :-)

    Jsimm - I forget the exact demensions of the runner, it's in my mom's basement right now, but she said she would sell it for $50 - I do know it's wider than your average runner but I can get the dimensions if you want them.

    The dress is going to get dirty on the bottom regardless whether it's at the beach or somewhere else. It won't be noticeable and you can get it cleaned after the wedding. I say if the aisle runner is just going to be purchased solely to avoid getting your dress dirty, then don't bother spending the money on that and put that money towards getting your dress spot cleaned and preserved after the wedding.

    Thanks for the advice ladies.  I thought it would look a bit silly anyway.  Now to fight Mom on the issue again ;-) And maybe FI will back me up on this too.

    I saw something on a DIY message board (I'm sorry - I can't remember which one!) where the bride crafted an aisle runner made out of bamboo table place mats.  It looked really great in a beach setting - but I'm sure it ended up being pricy since you'd need to have about 2 wide by however many long.
