June 2012 Weddings

FI & groomsmen

So FI finally wrote to his last two friends he wants to ask to be groomsmen, J and A.  He BCC'd me the email, and I'm really thankful he did because he informed them that the wedding will be "on the 15th" and that he's really sorry he's asking them at such a late date.  Luckily I caught that, and made him respond telling them in what month we are getting married on the 15th.  I didn't want them turning him down because they can't get here in 2 weeks!  Now we're just playing the waiting game.

Has anyone else's FI done something crazy when asking groomsmen, or with his groomsmen?

  • My FI actually got down on one knee at a bar to ask one of his groomsmen. It was totally improvised, and a little awkward, but they laugh about it now.

  • My FI STILL hasn't asked all his GM!  I don't know why he's holding out but he is.

  • I told my girls in December and they tried waiting to tell their husbands who are groomsmen but after 2 mos of my FI not saying anything they finally spilled the beans lol. One of them said to us 'When are you going to ask me to be in your wedding?' We laughed because I thought he had and FI apparently did too.

Other then that he's doing better communicating with them. He picked out the tuxes last weekend and texted all of them the price/store info and a pic of the tux before we left the store#proudmoment!

  • No but I wish he would unask one. He and his FI never make effort to contact us and we're in their wedding in September. He knows they won't remain friends after his wedding so it bugs me that he'll still keep him in ours
  • FI still doesn't have a Best Man. He's pretty sure he knows who he wants it to be, but he hasn't asked yet. He might've told them that they're wearing suits, but I'm not 100% sure. I'm going to make sure we go shopping for his suit soon so that it can be tailored. And he needs a bowtie and we need to buy the GM/fathers ties. He's being pretty lazy about his side of the WP, but there's really no reason not to be lazy about it, haha. They have it easy.

  • Nope FI asked his GM all on his own. The wierd part is getting them gifts. He decided to do these all black tool sets which were cool. The funny thing is he purchase them and gave the out the same weekend.

    That is absolutely hilarious.

As for FI, he tried to get out of going to the tux shop this weekend, again. Not knowing when the next time we'd be up there. We need to go so the GM have plenty of time to get up there themselves silly! It's 45 minutes away from my house and only half of the GM live close to this place. One lives 2 hours away from them.

  • FI asked his brother to be his best man about 6 months ago (point blank...as in "will you be my best man for my wedding next June") and he happily accepted.  I got a text from his sister (who is also in the bridal party) a couple weeks asking me to please get FI to talk to his brother because he seems to think he's not in the wedding party.  They live in Australia and I know we don't really talk to them a whole lot at the moment but I really have no idea why he thought he wasn't in the bridal party....we'd already bought him the pants he will be wearing and we were discussing shirt options with

I have NO idea why he waited so long.  I kept bugging him to do it a few months ago, but eventually gave up - he'd either ask them, and we'd make plans, or he wouldn't and we wouldn't worry about it.  They didn't even get STDs because I don't have their addresses because FI wouldn't ask them (hence why the date thing was such an issue!).

I don't think any of them have talked in over a year, to be perfectly honest, but that's just kind of how their friendship works.  They won't say a darn thing to each other for months on end, then one day they'll all be on the X-box together and join in the same video game and it's like they talk every day.  Weirdos!

  • I bugged FI every day to tell ME who they were - for two months! He finally told me on New Years Day (he only waited because knew it bugged me). He asked them early Feb when we went in for his tux.

He sent a text to his best man and said... "hey dude, wanna wear a monkey suit and give a speech at our wedding?". I cracked up - guys are SO weird.

  • so one of my bridesmaids said my FI may have drunkenly upgraded told one of the GM he is Co-best man.... now I'm trying to figure if this really happened or what I'm supposed to print on the programs!

Oh man. I am so glad that my FI isn't the only one that procrastinated on this. What drove me absolutely nuts was that when he finally did ask, he sent out a MASS text message to them all. As if texting them wasn't enough, he sent out the same text and the same time to each of them. MEN!

This!  FI JUST asked his Best Man a few weekends ago.  I'm not sure if he's asked anyone else yet, but he has said he wants to ask them all in person.  Which I can understand.

  • Mine was a giant putz too. He didn't ask them all until right before Christmas and he FINALLY asked his grandfather to officiate last month! His ordeal was that he wanted to ask in person if he could (most of them live across the state). I find it funny b/c I was so excited I asked my friends & brother within a month of being engaged!

  • It must be a guy thing. My FI hasn't asked his guys yet either. That of course means they haven't gotten fitted for tuxes yet. My FI works out alot and has very broad shoulders that are hard to fit. The fact he is waiting so long is becoming a stress factor for me. I'm glad I'm not alone!
