Photographer - How many hours??

I was just wondering how many hours of photography everyone booked. We have narrowed it down to 3 photographers who are all kind of pricey and we were trying to decide if we could get away with 4 hrs of photography instead of the common 6hrs +.

The 3 are Joanna Tano, Anna Kim and Ka'ua as my WC recommended him and he is offering a special right now. Either way none of them is inexpensive!

Who did everyone use?

What is it that you want captured? Just bridal preps and ceremony is no problem in 4 hours. May even have time for a first look or a few family portraits. Or if you are willin to skip prep, 4 hours can also cover part if a reception. It really depends on your timeline and how you squeeze everything in. If you could describe more about your wedding day timeline and what elements you want, we can give you a better sense. Shawn Starr is another forum favorite. Others mentioned often are Mike Sidney and Visionari. There are plenty others, too! We flew ours in from Philly.

We're flying ours in from Maryland, but we're expecting to have her working for about 5 hours.

Hair and Makeup at 2:30 (so getting ready pictures)
    First look around 4:00 PM
Get to ceremony site at 4:45 PM - get some family pictures out of the way if the officiant is running late
    Ceremony at 5:00 PM
Pics of the two of us up until sunset (6:15 or so)
She's then coming with us for our dinner and will be taking some pictures, but mostly she's just there to eat.

We used Joanna (HIGHLY HIGHLY recommended - we did a TTD shoot with her too) and originally booked her for 7, though we sent her home after 6. We didn't have a huge must take list, so we probably could have captured everything we wanted in 5 hours.

For us, the important things were some getting ready pics, ceremony and sunset pics.

I am going with Sieber Studio and we're doing 5 hours. Ask if she would be willing to stay longer if you need additional hours. Just make sure it's noted in your contract along with the fee.

Oh, I should add that our package included full day coverage and we wanted everything documented.  They started shooting with us around 10:30am and finished around 9:30pm -- but not all of it was active shooting.  I know they also went early to the site to catch some prep shots around 8am so it was a long, long day for them.

Since we are having ceremony only at Olowalu, there will be a few pics of me getting into my dress, FI preparing, the whole ceremony, group photos, couple photos as the sun sets, etc. We chose a 3 hour package. No photos for the dinner in town. Our package includes two photographers. We booked with Kim Aihara from Aihara visuals. I think since we have a small group we can get away with only 3hours but you can also book a smaller package and add hours onto it. HTH

It depends on what you want. If you want pics of you getting ready, how big your party is, if your ceremony and reception are at the same place, etc.

One of the photographers we were considering made a timeline for us and we could get much of what we wanted in 2 hours with 2 photographers. Photog even suggested bringing the cake to ceremony site to get everything in. We're probably not going to do that, but it was nice to get suggestions on how to try to get things done within a certain amount of time considering our budget.

We're doing 8 hours with Ben Pigao. I think he's been doing weddings for a few short years, yet his work is awesome! We're flying him in from Portland, OR and he's even doing our e-session in San Francisco. VERY reasonable pricing, will work with your budget, and all he asks in addition to the package is airfare since his family still lives on Maui (he's a Maui native). But definitely ask him since he can make a custom package for you, but that's what he told me... I also checked references for Hawaii brides and they gave him rave reviews. Honestly, he's maybe 1/2-1/3 less than the expensive photogs, but still produces excellent photos. Check him out at: www.benpigao.com Let him know Diana sent you his way! :)
