First Meeting With the Priest Tonight

Hi Everyone,

My fiance and I have our first meeting with the priest tonight.  My fiance was married when he was younger and so we'll need to do annullment paperwork tonight (however it was never blessed by the church and the priest said it was not the same annullment process as if he had been married in the church- not sure what the actual name is).  Anyway, I'm not sure what to expect, and I'm a little nervous.  Anybody else have experience with this?

Thank you!!!

Everything will be fine. Just relax and be honest with him. The first meeting is just going to be getting to know you both and start the paperwork and requirements process. He will probably explain the steps you and your FH need to take for the annulment. I know you said that it is not the typical process, but just be aware that it can be a very lengthy process.

Are you talking about a Lack of Form?  If your FI was Catholic at the time of his first marriage but never had the marriage recognized by the church, he would undergo Lack of Form rather than Nullification.  That might be a shorter process.  Your priest will be able to guide you when he hears the situation.

Don't worry.  As my H says, there's little priests haven't heard.  They are here to help us navigate through life, there's no need to be nervous.

    Congratulations on your engagement.

Ditto what the others have said. I just wanted to wish you well and reassure you that it will go well!

    Congrats!
