cake questions for my houston ladies!

I am at the point to where I need to go ahead and book a baker? but cant seem to find one that quotes me under 600 bucks!? I was budgeting about 3 - 400 for the cake is that not an idealistic limit for the cake? Need some advice and maybe references to some bakeries! :)

    We had a 4 tier 2 flavor cake from For Heavens Cake, the bottom tier was a dummy tier, we paid $550 total and returned dummy tier and got $60 back. They were great to work with, delivered on time, cake wad delicious and everyone complimented it. I highly recommend them, you can email them for a quote. I actually saw pic of a cake on their gallery online, emailed them for quote asking for similar cake to the pic and gave wedding date and time, Rick responded right away.

    We are going with Edible Designs by Jessie. We are having a 3-tier cake with a 4th dummy tier and I believe it is $550? Not sure exactly b/c we have a groom's cake in there, too, but I know the TOTAL for both cakes is $975.

    And the cakes are to DIE for. I did 4-5 tastings, and hands down, these were the best. The cake itself is very light and spongy, not too heavy. And I personally don't like classic french buttercream, I like something a bit more sweet, and her frosting hits the mark.

    You may want to try World Cakes & Catering near  I-10 & Silber (http://www.worldcateringhouston.com/). Frances Walsh is the pastry chef and she is amazing. The cakes are really good (and beautifull) and their prices were much better than many of the other bakeries I visited.

    alphorn bakery. off west dallas downtown. Peter (owner) is a Swiss bakery chef. They are amazing and so reasonable!!!
