Palermo's Bakery

Does anyone have feedback on Palermo's Bakery whether good or bad?

My venue offers cake through Palermo's Bakery & Le Petit Gareau.  I just google mapped both and Palermo's is a half hr away from me while Le Petit Gareau is an hour.   I'm curious if I am making a bad decision by just going to see Palermo's? I really don't want to spend 2 hours in the car just for a cake tasting so it looks like Palermo's would be it.

Any other helpful advice?

Thx!

I just had my tasting a couple weeks ago at Palermos and it was delicious! I can't speak for the final outcome -but the place was fantastic and they are reviewed VERY well on wedding wire.com

My fi happily ate lots and lots of cake lol

That's good to hear, thanks! Assume we just flip through a book also to choose the cake?

Was fondant an additional fee? Cake is included in my venue but I have a feeling from other knotties that it's probably only buttercream.

I'm using Palermo's as well, their cakes taste awesome and they can pretty much make the cake any way you want it. Fondant is always extra.

Yeh, we unfortunately learned that too. Fondant is extra - depending on your venue and such. They have a website with "wholesale" wedding cakes - that's typically included in your wedding packages.  They have more to look at in the store and can customize.

When did you all schedule your tasting? Did you go through your venue to schedule the tasting or call the bakery directly? Our cake is included from our venue for Palermo's also.

I scheduled mine right through the bakery. I told them where I was getting married.

I figured it would be extra but is it like a ridiculous amount of $ more? Or are you sticking with buttercream?
  • edited December 2011
Well, depends on what you want. My FI loves cake and we went way over budget our wedding cake is $2300 and his groomcakes is $800.....Now I know this is a lot for cake but we really wanted a particular cake, and he's paying for the overpriced groomscake himself.

God bless you, Kathy.  I don't think I can spend that on cake.  I went over budget on my invites and hoping to be more careful with my cake so that's why I'm nervous.

I wouldn't even know the first thing of what fillings to pair with cake.  Should be interesting when we schedule it.
  • edited December 2011

our cake was from Palermos.  It was really good.

    Yes, fondant will be extra.

You can look on Palermos website to see cakes they offer for "free" for the venues that include it.  It's under the "wholesale" section.

$2300 is ridiculous to spend on a cake imo.  No one even notices the cake but you.  And once it's cut up, you can't even tell the difference.

Yes I know and my honeymoon is pretty much the same price but this was important to FI so I let him have that....I don't eat cake so it's all for him.

And about the filings, Palermo's give you the cake already cut up with the fillings in it already so it's easier to make a decision instead of tasting all fillings separately from the cake.

No way would I pay 2300 for a Palermo cake.   When I had a cupcake from there it was stale and tasted awful.  To which, when I reported it here ,Palermo actually emailed me a bit rudely about it.  Now the wedding cake I had from there was good but definitely not worth that.

And yes, this is coming from someone who spent $600 on a custom grooms cake.

Ahh, I didn't even see the link for the wholesale. Thanks Chelsea!

Beth you make me a little nervous about the taste... However, I'm having a huge venetian hour so I'm really not concerned too much about people eating our cake.
  • edited December 2011
Jen's cake was good so maybe the wedding cakes are better than the regular cakes.  And yes, with the venetian not as major.

I traveled an hour to have a tasting at Palermo's because of all the good reviews I read. However I wasnt that impressed and neither was my mother and we are people who really like cake. The cake itself was a little dry but the fillings were very good. The cake itself was better at the bakery that would be providing the cake through my venue if I chose to have it. For a place that got so many good reviews the cake was disappointing.

Lola - I would try to check out Le Petit and Palermo's on the same day (definitely doable).  Then you can really decide.  I think I've had Le Petit and it was yummy - if I am remembering the right place.

I'm sure you're right.  I really hate to sound like this but I kind of don't care much about the cake because I don't expect the guests to eat it when we paid enough extra for the venetian hour.

I'm getting married at the Venetian.  Figure it must be good since it's its namesake :)
    What about you?

I went to Palermo's for our cake tasting, and their cakes taste very good.  We have a 4 layer cake, and are ordering two different flavors - alternating flavors per layer.

I could be going crazy and I confuse this all the time, but isn't it a Viennese table, not a Venetian one?

I went to Palermos and Le Petite on the same day. Le Petite's cake was very moist. Palermos cake was dry. I also did not like the people at Palermos, they asked me before I left if I would be able to tell them if I wanted their cake within the next two days because they do not keep orders any longer. John from Le Petite is awesome!
