Is having a tent for a ceremony weird?

Hi all,

It's looking like we're going to have an outdoor ceremony in Sept 2013. I have no idea what to do in case of inclement weather, though. Would it be weird to get married under a tent? Also, if it rains that means the ground will be wet and possibly muddy. I'm also very fair skinned so sunburn happens very easily...in case it's sunny.

I'm just wondering what other people have done in similar instances.

Any suggestion or feedback are welcomed!

    not weird at all! Im sure it will be beautiful. I have a tent for my reception, and if it is raining I will be tenting the ceremony space aswell.

    A friend of mine had to move her ceremony into her reception tent. Some furniture was rearranged and it was fine, very beautiful actually.

    I would recommend a back-up INDOOR venue if there is a good place nearby.  For example, our ceremony was outdoors at a vineyard, with an indoor reception hall.  If the weather had been bad, we would have just moved the ceremony inside.   So you might look into indoor options.

    If there ARE no good indoor options, then you'll need to look into tents.  I've never been to a tent wedding, so I'm not really sure I know how it works -- if you can rent one to have on "standby" to use just in case, or if you have to shell out the rental fee whether you end up using it or not.  Definitely check with your venue to see what their policy is on tents (some places don't allow them, or require they be rented from certain companies).

    If you are set on having an outdoor ceremony, a tent is perfectly normal.

    Our venue's ceremony location is outside, by the water. We are getting a back up tent just for inclement weather. The only option at my venue is to have the ceremony on the dance floor, which I do not want!
