My mom and I went to pick up my wedding gown on Friday. At the last alteration appt. everything went well and we knew that we would be in and out. So not the case. When the lady put my dress in the dressing room I didn't notice anything wrong. But when I went to unhook the train, I noticed small clear snaps on the underside of the chiffon. YES, SNAPS! There were 6 on each side of the detailing down the back of the gown. My mom went and got the seamstress, the store manager and the district manager, who just so happened to be in the store. They told us that they would take the snaps out and we told them that if we saw one trace of the snaps, we would want a new gown.
Well after 2 hours, one of taking the snaps out and trying to find a way to bustle the gown and another hour of fixing it, I finally got my gown. It really boggled my mind that a seastress, who should take pride in her work, would put snaps on chiffon in the first place.
Here's a pic of the dress.

The dress that I loved, we knew could not be bustled and I really didn't want to carry it around the whole afternoon. But after I put this dress on, everyone said that it was perfect and I can't wait to finally wear it.
And the whole time, my future husband was in the room......
Re: Drama and the Dress
That's a really pretty dress, and since it's David's I'm sure you'll have time to get another in if they can't undo what they did.
[QUOTE]Were the snaps to snap the chiffon overlay to the layer underneath? I have my first fitting with my chiffon dress next weekend and I'm really interested in figuring out how to bustle it. The snaps were to bustle just the chiffon. There were more snaps at the bottom of the chiffon as well. Horrible! They wound up tying very small ribbons under the decoration in the back. You can't even see them now.

Can you tell me why using clear snaps was so horrible? They were on the underside, no? I have a lace dress and have no idea what kind of bustle I will have, but I figure it will either be hooks or snaps. Are bustle snaps suppose to be invisible? Do some bustles hide the snaps/hooks better than others?
[QUOTE]baystate, if you want I can let you know what happens at my fitting. The bustle will probably be my only alteration so we'll spend a good amount of time looking at the different options.

Thank you! That would be awesome.

Baystate - I have no idea if there are certain types of bustles you shouldn't do because of the fabric. My seamstress and I played around with a couple of different options until we got the chiffon to hang in a flattering manner. She used hooks and loops for mine. She added one hook somewhere in the center of the train that connected with a loop near the bottom of the zipper (both the hook and loop were hidden under the dress detailing, so you couldn't see it. Then she added a couple of hooks (or maybe fabric-covered buttons that matched the dress?), again, they were hidden in the dress detailing, and these connected with small ivory sheer loops that she added to the sides of the dress. The loops were out in the open, but they were so smaill and the same color and fabric of the dress that you couldn't see them unless you were looking for them.
I don't have any pics showing the bustle back yet, so I can't post any (sorry!). I should have them in a couple of weeks, so if you're still looking for examples, I can post them then - just let me know.
