First Colony Brides

any first colony brides out there? My FI and I are looking at doing our reception there and I wanted to see if anyone had any comments about it?

I have an appointment with them tomorrow, actually.

From what I understand, you have to pay the event fee and if you are having a large wedding, you have to rent out the entire inn for two nights.  I believe there are 26 rooms.  Of course your guests have the option to rent the rooms at the inn and you have to pay for whatever rooms aren't rented.

This concerns me because what if your guests only rent out 10 rooms?  Then you have to pay for the remaining 16 and that's really expensive!!!

Also, I am a little bothered that the event fee doesn't include anything so you still have to rent tent, tables and chairs, linens, etc.  So it really adds up quickly.

Of course I may be mistaken, but that is how I understood it when I spoke to the woman on the phone.  I should have more information tomorrow!

Keb - I'm tempted to cancel my appointment, quite honestly.  But I figure I should at least look!

We looked at First Colony Inn and I really loved it.  I think we would have booked it, 'cept for FI's weird aversion to B&Bs.  I remember thinking that we were pretty confident we would fill (or almost fill) the whole inn pretty easily and that it wasn't that bad of a deal after that.  Shoulder season was cheaper, too.

I think with my guests I would fill it too, but then I think that many people may rent houses for the week and make it their vacation.  It makes me nervous.  It is a gamble!

I spoke to them this past week also, whenever I was searching around.. and they sounded way too pricey because of having to book the rooms for the weekend.  I know many of my guests might want to stay elsewhere... and their rates aren't very cheap either.  However, if you can afford it/guarantee that at least family will stay there, that place looks gorgeous!

    Good luck!

Never heard of it.  We are looking up in the Corolla/Duck area.
