Hi Girls!
So I'm going through the process of changing my name and it is really time consuming! I wish someone would have told me what to expect so I could've planned better. So i figured I would pass along the information to help y'all!
Marriage License:
You can apply for this up to 60 days in advance in most counties. We did it 5 days before the wedding. If you go through marriage counseling make sure and ask your pastor / rabbi if they are certified by Florida because with that certificate you get a significant discount on the license price and you can walk out that day with it! If no counseling - you'll have to wait 3 days before being able to get married and pay full price.
** I opted to have my license mailed to me after we got married. I had no idea it would take 5 weeks! Another bride, Melissa, told me that she was able to hold on to the certificate after the wedding and just walk into the courthouse a few days later and have it noterized right there saving her weeks of waiting. I wish I would have known this!
Social Security:
This step was very easy. Once I had my marriage license I was able to walk in without an appointment (the office in Sunrise is always empty plus it's right next to my work) and was out of there in 10 mins. They told me my new card should come in the mail within 5-7 days.
DMV:
I'm in this process right now. Word to the wise, you will need to make your appointment at least 4 weeks in advance! I went online today and the next available appointment wasnt until May 24th. So plan ahead and make your appointment early! You can also go online and fill out the application online and print it out to save time at the DMV.
Next step is my Passport! I'm trying to do it online and it looks like the cheapest I can get it is $270! So be prepared to spend some $$... gruh Thanks US Government!
