Sorta NWR - Nail Polish Question

Because I am fair skinned, I tend to stay with more neutral colors.  However, with it being Christmas time, I wanted to be a bit more daring and decided on a raspberry color polish by Wet N Wild.  I wanted my nails to pop with my engagement ring!

The problem?  While the color looks great, the polish seems to be in the thin side!  I seem to have to put on 3-4 coats to make it look solid.  Sometimes the color will be ok at the nailbed but almost translucent at the tips.

Is there something that I can add to my polish to make it thicker and have complete coverage in no more than two coats?  I have tried putting on a clear coat first and let it dry before I start the color, but that doesn't seem to matter.

Any imput especially from nail techs would be appreciated!

[QUOTE]Its cheap nail polish, thats par for the course. I don't know of another solution besides just buying OPI instead :D

Yes.  I also like Essie or some of the higher quality Sally Hansen.
  • Well one of the reasons I decided on Wet N Wild was not so much the price, but the fact that it said that it was fast drying.  I do have Sally Hanson but they did not have a color that was one that would make my nails POP.

Sadly, being on a fixed income, it leaves me little money left over to splurge.  I mean, do I buy my Diovan or nail polish?

I can't think of any way to make it thicker. I would guess like PP that a different brand would be worth a try.

I feel you.  I just don't think there's a way to get a stronger color saturation out of that brand, you know?
  • Put a top coat on top of it, that should help, Sally Hensen has great ones. Being a licensed mancurist, I personally love OPI or China Glaze. What about putting a crackle color on top of it, one bottle is around $6 ( in my area). Amazon might sell it cheaper.

  • Unfortunately, when it comes to nail polish, you seem to get what you pay for.  The Wet n Wild nail polish is one of the cheaper brands, so it's not going to last as long as some of the other more expensive ones.  I like OPI.  I think it's one of the better nail polishes, but I know it is a but expensive.  Maybe you could ask for it as an early Christmas present?
  • Usually shimmery polishes - at least the cheaper brands - are the ones that tend to do that to me, what you are describing. I find it helps to use a non-shimmer polish in the same color family as a base coat. Use 1 coat of any red/berry color you might already have, followed by 2 coats of the one you are having trouble with. If the colors are similiar, it shouldn't change the overall effect, just make the coverage more consistent. Other than that, all you can do is just paint on as many coats as it takes.

  • I decided to try Essie - had a $1 off.  I was extremely disappointed.  Despite putting on a base and top clear coat, it chipped within a day....
