Quick Music Question

Ok ladies, I need you advice...

I am not 100% sure what music we will have played, but I THOUGHT I knew for sure that it would be an organist playing the music.  After meeting our pastor last night we told us that the organist can play the piano instead, or just of the genereal seating, then hop over to the organ, or just the organ, etc, etc.

What are you ladies doing for music?  What do you think would sound better: piano, organ, or a mix?

Thanks in advance for the suggestions!!

Re: Quick Music Question

  • I'm having a piano and a violin.  I'm not a huge fan of the organ; I think it's fine for big masses like Christmas and Easter, but a bit too loud and overbearing for a wedding (JMO).  Plus, I didn't want the organ to overpower the violin.

I know you said you haven't picked out what music yet, but can you decide after you meet with the musician and maybe hear a bit of both before making your decision?
  • For our processional and recessional, we're using the organ. I just think it sounds more dramatic.

During the mass, she'll use the piano, which is more of an everyday type sound.

  • My friend was married in a church a few months ago where there was a piano and organ.  The musician went back and forth, but I can't remember what instrument he played for what part of the ceremony, but it was all beautiful!
  • I'd go for just the piano because I'm not a big organ sound fan.

We are doing just a cello, which my cousin's boyfriend is playing.  I just hope it's loud enough as it will be outside.
  • There is a piano in our venue, and I really thought I was simply going to go with no music - maybe an ipod for the few short aisle walks. However, my sister suggested a guitarist from her church - and then offered to pay for his service as our gift as well! I don't really care what he does, whatever he is comfortable with. I would love continuous classical, but it's all good!

  • Agree w Aimee - if you want any organ, save it for processional & recessional, and use piano during the ceremony. The organ might really enhance your entrance and make it awesome. Could you get in touch with the organist to see what they recommend, they will know what works best for sure.
