Invitation wording to reception?

I'm trying to do our wedding invitations, but I can't get the wording right. We're getting married at midnight, outside, in winter so we're not really inviting people to the ceremony.

But how would I word "you're invited to the reception"? My first thought was "request the pleasure of your company to celebrate their union" But union makes it seem like we got married at the courthouse - while courthouse marriages/ ceremonies are not lesser than any other ceremonies, that's not what we are doing.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

  • There is a website called VerseIt.com. It's amazing when it comes to wording. Here is an example from their website:

  • If you want to keep the wording traditional, you could use: "request the pleasure of your company at the celebration of their marriage."  I think that implies it is not actually the ceremony, because you are inviting them to the celebration of your marriage, not the marriage itself.
  • I wouldn't think that you'd gotten married in a courthouse just because I was receiving an invitation to a reception. A lot of people have private ceremonies, it's not something to be concerned about.

    I'd do something like:

The pleasure of your company is requested
at a reception honouring the marriage of
    Bride Full Name (maiden name)
    and
    Groom Full name
    Date
    Time
    Venue
    City, State

    Or:
    Please join
    Bride Full name
    and
    Groom Full name
at a reception celebrating their recent nuptials
    etc....

And if anyone's parents are hosting:

    Mr. and Mrs. Parents
request the pleasure of your company
at a celebration of the marriage of their daughter
    Bride
    to
    Groom
    etc.

    1) Wedding invites are in the 3rd person

    2) It's rude to write adult only reception
