double post....welcome kit ideas

I put this in DIY, but I haven't gotten a lot of nibbles yet.  I figured I'd try here too - just in case etiquette comes into play

I'm making welcome bags for out OOT guests.  Since the wedding is in Michigan, we're doing some Michigan themed swag (Vernor's pop, rice krispie bars, post cards from Mackinac w/ stamps , cherries plus other non-MI stuff).  I also got little water bottle stickers from VP, and I was going to add a bottle to the bags as well.

Here is my question:  Should I put 1/bag or 1/guest?  Some of the rooms have 4 people in it, and those bags would get pretty jammed packed if I put 1 of each item per person.

Plus, i'm not entirely sure how to make sure the bags end up in the right room if i do that.  Instead of putting names on each bag and having them handed out at checkin, I was going to have the hotel have them waiting in the blocked rooms.

suggestions and ideas?

Re: double post....welcome kit ideas

  • We did a bit of both. We had a Detroit wedding, and did 2 bottles of water, but 1 bottle of Faygo pop. 1 bag of Germack pistachios, 2 cookies (wrapped together) from a local bakery. 1 Sparty candy bar. Stuff like that.

I know for my hotel, we couldn't put specific room assignments on the bags, so I think your best bet is really to do 1/room and have a mix of things so that rooms with more than 1 or 2 people have a little bit for everyone. We also couldn't have the bags in the rooms, they had to be passed out at check-in -- assume you've double-checked that with the hotel?

These groups of four -- is that like two parents and two kids? Or 4 of your college buddies? I would plan to do one per family.

Be sure to check with your hotel though because some places would prefer you make one identical bag per person and not personalize them so they can just hand them out at check in to the number of registered guests in a room.

[QUOTE]I'd just do one bag per room with one of each thing in it. Can you add some Mackinac Island fudge?

I really wanted to.  We were up there for Easter, but the stuff (we were told) wouldn't hold until June.  There isn't anyone that' close to grab it for us  beforehand either.

To counter the cost difference, we're adding gift cards to Tim Horton's.  Apparently that is the yummy place for coffee/donuts and there is one a few blocks away. :)

Where did you get the Sparty candy bar?  FI's family are all HUGE MSU fans.  That would be excellent!

families.  As far as I know, noone is double bunking.  We still haven't gotten the final count yet (5 weeks out), but so far everyone is single party rooms.

  • The Sparty candy bars were from Morley/Sanders: http://www.sanderscandy.com/Sparty-Bar-p/20821.htm

Also, Tim Horton's GC's are a GREAT idea. Since it's Canadian, there aren't really a ton in the US. I have a friend who moved to CO from MI and she's so sad she can't have Tim Horton's now.

Hey - I never post here, but wanted to add: my hotels said they would charge a "delivery" fee for putting the bags in guests' rooms. On the other hand, if you have them hand the bags out at check-in, they don't charge you.

Not sure which hotel chains you're using, but mine are Four Seasons, Sofitel and Courtyard Marriott and they all mentioned this type of fee. I agree with PPs that it probably makes sense not to personalize them.

    Hope that helps.
