Re: Gift for parents

  • We're getting them a gift certificate to their favorite restaurant and then doing personalized photo albums for them (so the grooms family pics in his parents album, etc).  My parents are also divorced and don't think they really want an album w/ the ex and their new spouse all over the place ;)  We're going to do ours on Mixbook I think.
  • You can give the gifts whenever you want.  You could invite each parent (set) over for a nice dinner before the wedding and give them the gifts then just to let then know how much you care.  For the gifts, I would do something like PP said.  For the married parents a gift for both of them, and for the divorced ones something individually (i.e. a dinner certificate to their fav. restaurant, movie tickets, etc).  They are your parents, so you know them best.  Something to simply say thank you is all you need :)
  • I didn't know either! My mother and I are uber-close, so I just asked her, I loved her answer: "All I want in this whole world is for you to be happy, no present or trinket could ever mean as much" Needless to say, we cried like babies! I think a nice dinnner with you is all they would want, especially with all the hectic planning going on!

  • We did personalized, family specific Mixbook albums for our folks!  They went over really well.

We also gave them each a few individual items - my Mom and DH's mom each got a piece of jewelry, DH's dad and my dad got a tie and tie pin, my step-dad got an item for his bar, etc.  We basically followed the same guidelines as with wedding party gifts - shop like it's their birthday, nothing that must be used in the wedding.

  • Something that would work whether your parents are together or divorced is something called Your Picture Story on Etsy. I ordered one for my parents, and it looks wonderful. Your can customize your own message on it, as much as you want, and it also comes with a frame on it to place a picture in. They have ideas already set up too if you can't think of something to write. I am going to give mine to my parents a few days before the wedding. I wanted to have a private moment with them when I give them this and the day before and day of I don't think that will be happening.

Otherwise, all of these ladies had great ideas with gift certificates and what not. Just find something each of your parents loves. My mom loves zebra print, so I will be giving her some zebra stuff...I also made sure she got her own special pack of zebra printed tissues for the wedding ceremony. You would never believe how special she felt to get her own little bag of zebra printed tissues. :-)

    Good luck!

We got our parents g/c to their fav places.  In addition we got his mom and my dad a picture frame that had a picture of us with them when we were little and a picture that we will be giving them from the wedding.

We gave the g/c's at the RD and the picture frames were at their table setting at the reception.
