Makeup advice?

I have just about everything set for my wedding day except one thing: makeup. I want to do my own, but need guidance. Someone suggested just going to a makeup counter at a department store and telling them what I want and letting them make me over, then if I like what they do, buy the products and practice, try to replicate on wedding day. Anyone have any better ideas? I can't afford to pay to have it done.

    Hmmm the only other thing I can suggest is find a Mary Kay consultant? Then they will show you how to apply and let you play with the samples...

    If you go to Nordstrom, they do not charge to do your makeup.  At the very least, you can purchase some fake eyelashes or something for their time. Or, perhaps you could purchase the lipstick or gloss they use so that you can easily retouch later in the day.

    I got my makeup done there for our e-pics, and the woman couldn't have been any more willing to help me. She didn't make me feel obligated to buy anything at all!

    That's defnitely an option.  FYI I really like Laura Mercier at Nordstroms, particularly their foundation.  Mac is known for being fun as well as the least expensive (and I love their eyeshadows and lip products), so that's a good option (although I'm not as big a fan of their foundation).

    ARe you talking about going there on my wedding day and having them do it??!! I think that would stress me out too much.

    I use Dior AirFlash (spray on foundation) with mac primer it fail-proof and stayes on thry out my 14hr day, Dior has eye shadow kits that are easy to use  as well.

    It depends what look you're going for. MAC store at UVillage can put any four shadows you choose into the little box kit for ya -if you prefer to be more organized and minimalistic.

    If you're into smokey eyes; Shephora has a kit with mascara and pensil and the shadows ready to go ($38 i think), that's how I learned to do my eyes- super easy!

     No I don't think they were suggesting day of. More like a few days/weeks before so you can really practice the new techniques the MUA shows you.
