Flower girl?!?!

My fiance and I are debating having a flower girl.  I think they're cute, but my family is really small and he's not close to any of his relatives with kids.  On top of this, he's not completely sold on the whole idea of having a small girl-child in a dress throwing petals.  Anyone got a great idea to solve my problem?

    Unless you are close to a little girl the right age for a flower girl, then I think it's silly to be having this conversation.  It's perfectly okay not to have a flower girl.  I think picking a little girl just to fill the role is not cool.

    You don't need a flower girl. We weren't close to any young boys in either family so we skipped having a ring bearer. We only had a flower girl because we are pretty close to one of our friend's little girls. I would just skip the FG altogether, rather than just ask a random girl who you don't know that well to fill the role.

    Thanks guys!  I haven't been to many weddings so I just didn't know if it was something you "had to have"...I was leaning towards not having one just because we weren't close to any little girls and I thought it would be weird to ask some random little relative on his side.

    Cute kids aren't props for your fairytale weddng.   If there aren't any little girls you are close to, then skip it.   Even if there ARE, then you would essentially be asking some four-year-old to support a marriage (of which they have no understanding), and is something they can't really give consent to do anyway.

    Only have a flower girl if there is someone close to you and special in your life that you want to include.  Don't have one just to have one.

    Same here.  We are going to have a ring bearer because my FI has a nephew that will be 5 at the time but neither of us have any little girls that are close relatives or we are close to so we are not having a flower girl.  We think it is silly to have a flower girl just to have one.

    If I didn't have a Goddaughter, I wouldn't have had a flower girl, since there are TOO many little girls in both of our families we are close to. 

    Your marriage will be legit with or without a flower girl.  No worries!

    We're not having a ring bearer or flower girl...there is nothing you "have" to do...remember, it's your day! :)
