Engaged Encounter

My FI and I went on our engaged encounter retreat this weekend.  I was very excited to be going to it but nervous on how my fiance would react to it.  He is not Catholic.  Overall the weekend was amazing.  It was so nice to get away from everything and just focus on each other.  I feel that we are closer today then when we arrived at the retreat center on Friday.  Frankly to be honest it definitely opened my eyes to some topics that we may not have discussed on our own.  It also helped me realize, we are not just planning our wedding but our marriage.  Its so easy to get caught up in the wedding planning and forget to sit down and talk about what we want in our marriage.

I am so happy I did the retreat sooner than later.  It gives us time to implement what we learned this weekend into our relationship and help lay down a foundation to our marriage.

  • I concur whole-heartedly. I really enjoyed it. Ours was held at a monastery--so peaceful and serene. I'm happy you had such a positive experience :-)

  • Yay!  Keep those notebooks in a safe place, as it's fun to re-read the letters after you're married.  And, it's great to take the time to discuss the prompts you did not have time to address in your letters during the weekend.  Best wishes!

  • Glad you got a lot out of the experience. Our priest required us to do the EE weekend as well and it definitely was an eye and heart opening experience.

  • Awesome!  We're going two weeks from no and are very excited.  We did traditional pre-cana classes as well, but the engaged encounter came so higly recommended, we decided to do it too.
