So I called the place

to ask about the dog.

The lady who answered the phone said the dog belongs to one of the regular customers.

I have no idea why someone would bring a 30lb bag of dog food with them on the morning walk to get breakfast, but I am going to buy this story.

It makes me feel better to believe that the dog is inside somewhere with water and air conditioning.

    I never walk anywhere, so this would never occur to me.

    Also, I get the big bags of dog food - at the feed store. The guys there carry the bag for me - to the cashier and to my car. Once I get it home, H carrys it. So again, that would never occur to me.

    Thank you for the plausible and totally true explanation of the event. Now I can stop worrying/feeling guilty.

    It is MUCH cheaper at the feed store, which is also closer to our house than PetsMart.

    Also, the guys carry things for me. To get help at a tradional pet store, I'd have to set myself on fire. At the feed store, they greet me right away and I like that. The feed store is one of my favorite places to go (never I thought I would say that). Also, shopping there is supporting a local, independent business, who also happend to donate food and money to the rescue. Win-win!!!

    that's a much better resolution.

    (and I LOVE my little local dog food store...
    I went in yesterday, didn't even get to the dogfood before I was asked if they could help me--explained I wanted a 40lb bag of CA Nat, chicken and rice--and couldn't carry it.
    He explained itw as in the back, went and go t it, I paid for it, he put it in my trunk...I never touched the bag :-)
