Help Please

I want to have a 40's themed wedding but are having trouble coming up with Centerpiece ideas. We are having the candy bar and the music but I am having trouble coming up with other ideas.

That's a tough one! You know what, I just googled 1940's decorations. I didn't read a whole lot of what the search results were but you could always start there. I'm sorry if this isn't much help, but I would definitely just start googling away! Keep a pen and your notebook with you and start hen-scratchin' ideas and sketches. :) Once you get some ideas you can always post again and bounce them off of us. Good luck!

  • What I would do to get inspiration, is rent some movies with weddings, party scenes or even just fabulous homes from that era.   Some that come to mind are: Rebecca, Philadelphia Story (with Katherine Hepburn and James Stuart, not the newer one with Grace Kelly), and Easter Parade (it is supposed to take place in the early 1900s, but if I remember correctly, it has tons of fabulous flowers).

It's tough because it seems that the trend in the '40s was more of a realistic "noir" style, and they lack the lavish party scenes of the movies of the 30s and 50s, but you might get some ideas anyway.

Ok, hope that helps a bit!
  • You could do 40's black and white picture luminaries. That's the first idea I got. What is the overall feeling of your wedding? That would give a better idea of what would work for you specifically.

  • definitely google it. i am doing a 1950s inspired kinda thing and ive gotten some great ideas.
for centerpieces, i think i am going to do a mix of games and toys that  wl double as favors for people so you could try 1940s toys and games?
ebay is great for collecting vintage era stuff and could help you get a better idea of whats classified as 1940s era.
    good luck!

  • Hey, ya know what? I was totally going to say to watch some movies from that era and see what kind of things are on the tables of the clubs (or whatever they call'em). I remember seeing a lot of them that had pretty things on the tables. That was good suggestion. :)
