Head Table Location

I am trying to figure out the reception layout and am confused as to where our head table should go.  We are having a small wedding in April and our reception venue is limited in space.  Can the head table go on the dance floor and then be moved once dinner is over? What are the pros and cons of this? Also, who would be in charge of tearing this down?

    If you're already strapped for space, I would seat your wedding party at tables with people they know and their dates just like any other guests and then sit with your husband either alone at a sweetheart table or sit with just you two, your MOH/BM and their dates, and your parents at a regular sized table.  

    The elevated head table with the wedding party staring down at everyone else is pretty dated anyway, so this might end up being a blessing that your venue doesn't have space for it.

    If you do set it up on the dance floor, you'll have to ask your venue if their staff will remove it at some point, but I honestly can't even think of a time where it wouldn't be really awkward.

    I figured that after eating we wouldn't have much of a chance for sitting since we will be mingling with the guests and dancing.

    They may want to be able to sit.  What about eating dessert or taking a load off their feet?

    When DH and /or I are in a wedding, we still go sit from time to time and we wouldn't be happy to have to find a new place for our stuff either.

    Sorry, but everybody needs a place to sit.  Not everyone is going to dance or even want to get up to mingle.  And not providing seats to elderly guests or persons for whom seats are medically necessary is bad hosting.
