OK, so our cake maker is awesome. She is very talented and her samples blew us away after trying 5 different places and really not being satisfied... and trust me sweets are my thing so it isn't hard to please me. Oh and let me also mention that she is probably going to be featured on TLC soon and her pricing is so cheap in comparison to others.
The only drawback is that she only works with fondant. I have heard some pretty bad things about fondant in regards to taste. I asked her if we could try the fondant and she said due to the nature of using it that we would only be able to try it when she is making another cake and we would have to come try it then...
Therefore, I want to know from all you lovely ladies, if you have tried fondant and in your honest opinion what did you think of it? I really like the look of the smoothness, so no issues there... but how does it taste?
I have heard some people say it taste almost like marshmallow, which I personally like...
Re: Have you tasted FONDANT?
If fondant tastes like marshmallows, it isn't a true fondant. It's called "marshmallow fondant", but it's made with marshmallows.... It's easier to work with than some fondants, so that's why some bakers choose to use it.
It's weird to me that she would let you taste it. Most bakers will have a big bucket or box, whichever, of their fondant in the back. When I asked my vendor to try his fondant, he literally walked to the back and brought me back a spoonful of fondant.
My cake is 5 tiers and entirely covered in fondant. So that's obviously how I feel about it lol. It depends on where your baker gets their fondant though, because they're all different, and some do suck really bad. However, there is always buttercream icing (or whatever you pick, cream cheese, etc) under the fondant, and a lot of people will peel the fondant off anyways because they think you aren't supposed to eat it, or that it won't taste good.
So that's my input and my experience with it. Personally, I would absolutely not pick fondant until I had tasted that baker's fondant. So that would be my only stipulation before signing.
GL! Pick what you're comfortable with!
