Catholic church costs?!

My fiance and I are getting married in a Catholic Church, and received the break down of how much just the ceremony and all it entails is going to cost. Approximately $1000, that includes the church, the singer, the organist, the alter boys and of course the priest. My fiance, and of course his grandmother, feel that it is way to much and feel that another church would be cheaper. If you don't mind sharing, I would really appreciate feedback on what everyones ceremony cost and what that cost included so I might be able to reassure him that my church isn't ridiculously priced. Thank you so much!!

I was married in March, 2010 in Mt. Laurel.  Our cost was $550 including the priest, use of the church, rehearsal, meetings, and organist.

Our church is in Center City and the cost JUST for the use of the church is $1,000.  Our pianist and cantor are another $450 and we will give a gift of $250 to our priest after the wedding.  Altogether ours will cost $1700+

I was married in 10/09 in Bordentown, NJ. The fee for the church (included priest, alter servers, organist, pre-wedding meetings, and rehearsal) was $300. However, my wedding was during a "street fair" type event in Bordentown and the church parking lot is normally used for parking and the CYO sports club charges $5 a spot to raise money, so we had to "buy" the parking lot in addition to this, which was another $250.

My father was furious but they only told us this a couple months before the wedding (we booked 18 months in advance) so it was easier to just pay the money than argue the principal of it.

    $1000 seems high, IMO.

Christ the King in Haddonfield is ~$300 for parishoners (I am one).  I'm giving the Msgr about $100 (love him) and alter servers $25 each.  Need to check on the organist cost.  Singer is a family friend but I'm giving her a gift as well.  Engaged Encounter was about $300, and I count that as a wedding expense!

St Charles in SIcklerville is $250 for parishioners, plus they reccommend that you tip the servers and priest.  My musicians are friends and also doing the cocktail hour, so that's a completely different cost.

St. Mary of the Lake in Lakewood is $750 with singer and organist. You must also put down a $100 refundable deposit (if you are late you lose it). You are encouraged to tip the priest $100.

You are also required to attend a pre-cana that appears to cost $115.

They also insist on keeping any flowers used on the alter, which I consider a loss because I thought you could have those transfered to the reception location.
