Engagement pictures

For those of you who took engagement photos, how far in advance of your wedding did you take them?  My wedding is not until June of next year.  I was thinking of taking them for the 1 year away mark...or is that corny? LOL  I would want the pictures for STDs and for the newspaper.

Also, any suggestions for engagement photo locations?  Close to Hudson County area.  Thanks!

    We took them about a year out, so we could use them on our save the dates.

    We are taking ours in 2 weeks and we are getting married July 2012 :)  We are taking them in central park.

    We took them about 6 months out, at Liberty State Park and on Liberty Island (and the ferry).

    We took ours a year out because we wanted to use them for Save the Dates.

    We had a friend take pictures for us for our save the dates about a year before.  We then took them again with our photographer a month before.

    If you look down the page at pervious posts there is a pretty large one with engagement picture locations, good luck!

    We needed for our save the dates but kind of waited until last minute - we took ours 7 months before.

    We're getting married next May and are doing ours at the end of the month...we're not planning on using them for anything in the immediate future, I just want to get them done haha.

    Also getting married next May and we took ours last weekend.  I am using them for the save the date and since we are getting married Memorial day weekend I want to send them out way in advance to give people time to plan

    We might do what PP said and have a friend take pictures fit our STDs. Our wedding is next May and we want to do our photos late summer or fall.
