engagement party

so my mom just told me that she and my dad are going to throw an engagement party for me and my FI. We got engaged April 2011 and our wedding is May, 2013. We are thinking June, 2012 for the party. Is it too late since we'll already be engaged for over a year?

I personally find it to be a little late. I think that engagement parties are supposed to be closer to when you got engaged, otherwise it might look like you are just trying to get presents or something. That could just be me, though.

We got engaged in May this year and I think if we were going to have an engagement party, we would have had it by now. I've never been to one and don't personally know anyone that had one, but I would do one within a few months personally. I think I'd just wait and have them throw a shower or something before the wedding.

Yeah, I also feel like it's too late for an engagement party. They really should be planned almost immediately after the engagement, and held within a few months. If they really want to throw a party, they could just throw a party and not make it about your wedding or engagement.
