Need some Knottie Vibes!!!

First good news:  So a small upturn in our emotional roller coaster of FI's job hunt this week.  On Tuesday he got a part-time job with a gym.  It's minimum wage so isn't covering all the bills or anything but it'll help cover some bills for sure.

Knottie vibes for:  Fi just called and said he has an interview tomorrow with another police department!  So exciting.  It is a long emotionally-taxing process but this is a step in the right direction so we would so appreciate your good vibes.  Also, I have my first annual review for this job tomorrow.  I'm not sure if raises are standard at these things but it could really help right now.  Regardless just some good feedback and being appreciated is a blessing in this job economy.

Thanks for all your support, ladies!!!

Out of curiosity, has he tried applying to an inner city department yet? A friend of mine really wanted to be a cop for our suburb in New Jersey, but he had to work in Camden, NJ (yes, THE camden, nj) for a few years first. Not ideal, but he was eventually able to leverage it into a cushy job in our town.

YIKES. I'd say thats quite a challege to be a cop in the city with the highest crime rate.

Huge vibes your way, Kathryn! Let's hope this time he gets a better answer than the last test! Good luck to both of you!
  • Thanks ladies!  Your vibes are already working!  I guess when it rains it pours.  So of course last weekend we took all of FI's suits to the seamstress so we had to run out last night and get him a new suit for his police interview.  While we were out his phone rings and he looks at it funny but then picks it up.

Well, earlier in the week he had interviewed for an assitant membership manager position at a gym and didn't get it because they said he was "over qualified."  He was soo pissed because he had just gotten hired for a minimum wage job swiping membership cards at the front desk of a gym yet he was over qualified to be an assistant manager?  So after he calmed down he called the guy back saying what are you looking for?  The guy kinda back pedaled saying they wanted more sales experience vs. FI's gym experience and he'd search the area for a fitness manager position that would better fit FI's experience.  FI was bold and said the guy was looking for the wrong thing.  A sales person could be great at what they do but if they don't understand the ins and outs of a gym they wouldn't sell anything.  The guy said he'd take that into consideration and let FI know after they talked to all the other "strong" candidates.

The phone call was this guy saying he wanted FI to come in for a final interview for the assistant manager position haha!  So he just got off work a half hour ago, has the police interview at 11 and the gym interview at 3.  Biggest thing about this gym job is it would put us in a position to save for the police academy and pay ourselves if a plan b is needed.

Within the county he applied to some of more of the "inner" cities.  In the whole county it is really Fort Lauderdale (which has nice and not so nice areas) and then a lot of suburbs.  He did just apply to one area that isn't considered so nice earlier this week.  He could look into Miami but he'd have to redo all the pre-testing (skills, swimming, agility, etc) because since it is a different county, they don't take each others scores.
  • Good luck!  Sending tons of vibes your way.  I hope your FI is able to get into the police department but the gym job would help in the meantime, I'm sure.  Keep us posted :)
