100+ Humane Society Puppies

Did anyone see on the news about the almost 100 Maltese and Cavalier King Charles Spaniel puppies that were dumped near Flower Mound? A new law went into effect on Sept 1st putting more regulation on puppy farms, so someone dumped them all.

The news report said that appart from being filthy because no one had changed their cages, the puppies were in mostly good shape, and a majority might be ready to be adopted by next week. The Maltese puppies are at the Flower Mound Humane Soceity, and the Spaniels are at the Humane Society of North Fort Worth.

I know there are lots of dog lovers here so I just thought I'd pass that along.

Re: 100+ Humane Society Puppies

  • I saw this yesterday! So so sad. Puppy mills are in my top 3 trigger points of life. Just something that will make me fly off the handle with anger.
  • I saw this last night on the news too, broke my heart!!
  • I saw this and it made me want to adopt them all.

I know, I felt like the scene in 30 Rock when Kenneth volunteers at an animal shelter

    "I will adopte them all."

But seriously, FI and I are considering getting a Spaniel. Dogs 101 describes them as good apartment dogs and their faces remind me of my childhood dog who was a spaniel mix.
  • My coworker got a King Charles spaniel a few months ago and she has had great luck. She was in an apartment, too (JUST moved into a house, though).
  • I still have a Dallas news app so I saw this, too!  Just terrible!

Related: a friend of mine posted on facebook yesterday asking if anyone knew of any good Weimaraner breeders in TX.  I (and lots of other people) immediately pointed out that she should go through a rescue rather than a breeder... especially since that's a breed that a lot of people end up giving up because they're so energetic.

That's good to hear! I'm going tomorrow to visit a friend who recently rescued a Cocker Spaniel and lives in an apt and she said he's doing great and is the most loving little dog! And both my mom and fi's dad have good sized yards that we could take a dog to to give it a yard to play in.
  • Aww! Poor puppies! Makes me want to adopt, even though we already have a cat and a dog in our apt and probably won't have a house until June. I'm really glad the news decided to give this good coverage to help the puppies get adopted.

I don't know of any but every time I hear someone mention Weimaraners, I think of Juno's stepmom.

Tee hee. Not sure if my dog would go for it though lol.
