Jr. Bridesmaid and Flower Girl Dresses

Our bridal party has no adults.  Just a junior bridesmaid who will be 9, ring bearer and flower girl, both will be 7.  Do you think it would look alright if I had both of them in the same color?  My mother is pushing for this over the top FG dress that doesn't match our style at all and I'm getting the guilt trip because my niece looks so cute in the dress and has her heart set on it (Thanks Mom and Sister!). It just doesn't make sense to me to have them in elaborate dresses when mine is more simple.  I thought it would be different to have both of the girls in our colors (when we finalize them).

With that being said, other than David's Bridal, do you know of any affordable places to get their dresses at?

For simple dresses, try the department stores and Amazon.  There was a super cute flower girl dress at Target last season, for like $30.

Usually the flower girl wears white/ivory but I don't think it really matters.  Both in the same color sound really cute.

Since it's Easter season, now would be a good time to look.  There are probably a ton of Easter dresses out right now that would work well as jr. bridesmaid and fg dresses.

  • I agree with Zulamay, now is the time to look for dresses, just before Easter.

Other than the fact you think the dress is a bit over the top compared to yours, is there anything else wrong with it? Is it hideously frou-frou and you just can't stomach it?

Since you have no other attendants, it probably doesn't matter what color you put the kids in. It's not like you will all be taking posed pictures in front of your table linens and people will be shockingly apallled at how they don't match your colors. (I'm making a joke here, not mocking).

If you really want different dresses, unless you totally hate this one they've chosen that she loves, you can always use the excuse it will be hard to find a matching dress for the 9 year old. Trust me, the taste and style differences between 7 (still a child) and a 9 y/o (starting to feel more "grown up") can be striking. Now that probably would look weird if they didn't match each other and the ringbearer in some way.

Hope that helps you with ammunition or ideas.
  • It's also the season for First Communions and such - so all sorts of places will start stocking white and ivory dresses for youngsters.  They are typically less expensive than going to a bridal place looking for a flower girl dress - but usually also the same styles, etc.

I think going in a different color is fun too - especially since you don't really have bridesmaids to compare her against.  I'd probably stick to the alternate color instead of the white/ivory.  You don't have to put both of the girls in the same color or dress - maybe pick two colors that go great together and stick in the same length/shoulder, etc.
