Ceremony Music - What are you ladies doing?

I am three months away from getting married and FI and I still have not started thinking about this. What are you ladies doing for the ceremony music? We are having a full mass, would love to hear your opinions!!

Check out the thread at the top of the board - there is a link to our site and we have a very large list of music used by the ladies on this board!

We had a Latin Mass, so there might be more music here than you need!

    Preludes:
Mozart: Divertimento for Violin, Viola, and Cello in E-Flat, K.563: III. Menuetto (Allegretto)-
Mozart: Quartet for Strings in C Major, No. 1, Op. 74: III. Menuetto (Allegretto)
...Bach: Cello Suite No 4 In E-Flat Major, BWV 1010: Movement 4: Sarabande

    Bridal Party Entrance:
    Mozart: Church Sonata No. 3 in D, K. 69

    Bridal Procession:
Mouret: Suite de Symphonies, "Sinfonies de Fanfares"

    Mass:
Monteverdi: Messa a 4 da Cappella: I. Kyrie, Gloria

    Offetory:
Palestrina: Canticum canticorum (Motets, book 4): Surge propera amica mea

    Mass(continued)
    Monteverdi: Sanctus, Benedictus, Agnus Dei

    Communion Motets:
    Mozart: Ave Verum Corpus, K.618
    Nicholas Wilton: O Sacra Convivium

    Recessional:
Handelt: Music for the Royal Fireworks: Suite HWV 351: 4. La Réjouissance

    Postlude:
    Mozart: Church Sonata No. 7 in F, K. 224
  • Seating of the parents: "Air" from the D Major Suite
Wedding party processional: "Largo" from the Four Seasons
Bride processional: Water Music "Alla Hornpipe"
Offertory/Communion hymn: "O God Beyond All Praising"
Recessional: "Tuba Tune in D" by Lang (definitely my favorite).

  • Processional: From Water music Hornpipe by Handel

    Offertory: Christ Be Our Light

    Communion: Pantis Angelicus

Prayers to Mary: Ave Maria by Schubert

    Recessional: Ode to Joy

During our Prelude, our cantor sang Gifts of Love, which could also be used during the Offetory.

  • We had an organist and cantor included in our wedding fee, so stuck mostly with that... the exception was the Ave Verum Corpus solo since I wanted my sister to be able to sing at my wedding!  Fortunately, the rather strict music director was kind enough to accommodate that request :-)  If I had an unlimited budget, I would have sprung for violinists, too, but that was an extra $300!

    Prelude:
Our organist just played some random stuff... I would have selected a Bach Concerto (BWV 1043 Largo ma non troppo), but didn't want to pay extra for violinists!
Processional: "Trumpet Tune in D" by Johnson (for wedding party and bride)
Gloria: Mode IV chant with organ
Psalm:  Psalm 96 (Proclaim His marvelous deeds to all the nations), arr by Randolph Currie
Gospel Acclamation: Mode IV chant with organ
Sanctus (Holy, Holy): Community Mass by Richard Proulx
Memorial Acclamation: Community Mass by Richard Proulx
Agnus Dei (Lamb of God): Community Mass by Richard Proulx
Marian: Regina Coeli (chanted solo by cantor)
Preparation of the Gifts: Ave Verum Corpus by Mozart (soprano solo accompanied by organ, adapted from full choral piece)
Communion Hymn: God with Hidden Majesty (Adoro te Devote)
    Recessional:  "Psalm 19" by Marcello

  • Service music (introit, gradual, agnus dei, sanctus, etc.): the usual setting for Ordinary Time in my parish. Don't actually know the name.

Preludes: mostly Bach and other standard organ repertoir; I still have to look them up. It'll be from the concerts my fiance and I attended on early dates. I still have the programs.

    Processional: The Church's One Foundation
Sermon Hymn: Sing Praise to God Who Spoke Through Man
Offertory: wedding hymn by John Newton; I can never remember the title, but there's only 1
    Communion Hymn: Adoro Devote
    Recessional: For All the Saints
Postlude: some sort of fanfare on Sine Nomine

oh - I should add - all the preludes/processionals/recessional/postludes were performed by a string quartet. All the mass parts were sung a capella by a 4-part choir and the communion motet, Ave Verum Corpus was sung by the choir with the quartet accompanying.
  • Oh, yes.  Ours were all organ and harp.  One of our good friends who is a Ph.D. candidate in Tuba Performance said he saw "Tuba Tune" on our program and thought I had "cheated on him."  =)  He was relieved that it was organ.

  • Riss, wow, that sounds amazing!  String quartet and a choir?!  That would be a dream for me.  I'm currently looking in to seeing if the choir I sing with would be able to sing (or at least in part).  The problem is that it is on Pentecost weekend and there are almost always Diocesean confirmations that night.  :(
Our director is waiting to see if that will be the case next year or not.
Do you sing with the choir?

We are pretty blessed to have professionals sing at our weekly mass. I have sung with church choirs in my younger days, but I don't anymore. Our choir director is a fan of my husband's writing and they have a few mutual friends, so he was more than happy to do our wedding. We only had 5 singers, but their voices filled up the church, so we didn't need more than that! So many people commented on how wonderful our ceremony was (and we had a Latin ceremony that was about 90 minutes long). I think having such beautiful music really made the experience much nicer for guests that weren't familiar with the Latin Mass.
  • We have paid section leaders (it is the Cathedral choir) so there are many professionals in my choir as well.  Sometimes I feel unworthy to sing with such talented people!

Being the musical person that I am (and also being someone that goes crazy when the music at church is bad) music that day is very important to me.  I am hoping that if I can't get the choir I can at least get a few voices or the husband/wife team to cantor.  I would love the choir because my favorite Ave Maria is the Biebel version and you need a choir for it.
