BACK!!! but with a bad surprise (dog PSA)

Hi ladies! DH and I just got back from our minimoon in the Catskills yesterday. Our wedding turned out great (despite the extreme heat), and I even saw Bimbi while doing photos along St Anthony. It was so much fun, and I'm going to start writing my vendor reviews this week. 

We had a bad surprise when we got home yesterday, though. We went to pick our dog up, and he seemed happy and fine, but by the time we got home he could barely walk. We took him to the emergency vet since it was after hours, and he tested positive for Lyme and Anaplasmosis, both tick-borne diseases. The vet said that it's a very bad tick year and that some ticks are now resistant to Frontline, which is the tick preventative that we use for Hobbes. PLEASE PLEASE check yourselves and your pets for ticks whenever you are in tall grass or woods.

    I am sorry to hear that. I use advantix and I found a tick on my dog in April! I thought that was too early for ticks but they were out and very thick this year. I found two on myself when I was doing yard work one afternoon too. Is there a cure/treatment for your dog?

    My dog just had to have surgery about two weeks ago to have a tooth removed. He must have cracked in while chewing on one of his bones. So beware if they are going to town on a hard bone it might be time to take it away...

    Aww so sad!  Will the pup be ok?  Our vet warned us of the same thing... they've upped Puck's frontline since he's growing so much (he was almost enough for the next 'size' up.)

    Emily- how old is your dog?  We just started giving our puppy hard bones, and he freaks out over them!  I guess, though, he's a puppy, and we're still trying to get him to loosen his razor baby teeth.

    P.S.- that double post thing has been an issue lately; it's annoying, but I'm trying to watch for them :)

    We started him on doxycycline, an antibiotic, this morning. He also was prescribed a doggy equivalent of ibuprofen for the pain. He's already looking better than he did last night, and he should fully recover.

    My dog will be 4 next month. He is a German Shepherd named Moose. We should start a "show us your puppy/pet" post! I love dogs, they are such characters. I had never had a shepherd before this one and they are a different breed. He has moods and personality. I am used to labs that are just happy all the time and are eager to please you. This dog thinks and decides whether what you are asking him to do is worth his time... Such a stinker! It is like having a toddler in the house, between him and my FI I don't need kids anytime soon!

    </div><div>We have a Goberian (Siberian Husky/ Golden Retriever mix.)  It's such a funny combination.  The Golden in him wants to play and please us all the time. The husky in him is like "man, f* you" half the time when he doesn't want to do something.  He's almost too smart for his own good ;)</div>

    Oh no! That sucks about your dog. My dog, Buckley, is a freaking tick magnet whether or not he's on preventative, it seems. It seems like he has more of an issue with wood ticks than deer ticks... which is slightly less worrisome because wood ticks are slightly less prone to carrying super serious diseases, but it still doesn't make me happy. I am constantly worried about him catching something.

    I'm glad your puppy is going to be okay!  How scary!  My FIL's dog got Lyme's a few summers ago and had the same symptoms and she made a full recovery.

    Our vet recommends a Lyme's vaccination every year when we take her in for the regular distemper and rabies shots.  I'm sure it's not a 100% but it doesn't cost much more (you're already paying for the vet visit anyways).  We also do 7 months of Frontline and check her all the time too.  I think that's about all you can do!

    Thanks everyone! Hobbes is definitely better than he was last night when he could barely walk. I'm having a hard time convincing him that he needs to just lie down and rest when he wants to be playing with his ball. On the bright side, I'm going to have some super toned arms after this from carrying the 38 lb lunk up and down the stairs several times a day!

    I'm glad to hear he is doing better! I can just imagine the toller pup in him wanting to play! haha. I hope he makes a full recovery :)

    Also, I'm glad to hear your wedding went well, I can't wait to see all of the pics!
