What should I do about the cake D:

So I was looking around at some cake ideas and I was thinking my God what am I going to do? I am a vegan and I found a really great vegan bakery however I am the only one and in the future in laws are very close minded red-neckish people who make yuck faces at slightest idea of eating something not full of animal products. I thought hey they don't have to know but some would question why I was eating the cake so my question is should I buy a wedding cake for everyone else and a mini cake from the vegan bakery for myself? Or should I not waste the money and by one or the other?

    If they're not going to be able to taste the difference, get a vegan cake. They honestly probably won't even notice you're eating the cake (or not).

    Is budget a factor? I would imagine that vegan = more expensive. If that's the case and you want to save a few bucks, get a normal cake and then a small vegan cake (or tier) for you and FI to cut.

    I think your best options are to either get the whole thing vegan, or get a vegan tier for just you/your FI.  If you want to be sneaky about it and have the whole thing vegan... maybe not tell them until after they've already eaten it.  Then, they can see that vegan cake doesn't taste that much different from regular cake. (I don't think it does, anyway.  I haven't had many vegan cakes in my life.)  If your FI likes vegan cake too, and supports the decision, I'd just say have the whole thing be vegan and those that don't like it can just deal or have no cake.  But that's just me :)

    I would probably just get a vegan tier or small cake for yourself and get everyone else regular cake. I am sure everyone here knows how in laws can be, and if it will potentially cause a problem, I would just try to avoid it at all costs. I know there are cupcake places around here at least, that do both regular and vegan cupcakes, if you find somewhere like that, at least you wouldnt have to go 2 places!

    I buy vegan cupcakes from this wonderful bakery all the time, and NO ONE can tell that they're vegan! It's awesome. :) However, in-laws can be cranky, so I think getting a vegan tier so it's still a part of your wedding cake sounds like a wonderful compromise.

    Like PP said, I think getting a vegan tier or a cupcake would be the smart way to go. That way everyone is happy!

    It isn't uncommon to have each tier a different flavor so I would agree with PP and say to do a vegan tier and a normal tier.

    Could you do a cupcake cake, and then have the top tier be a small vegan cake?  That way your guests could choose their cupcake flavor, and you could eat your separate cake and no one would notice?  That's one way to keep everyone happy without having to have a separate wedding cake.

    thanks ladies I'm gonna weigh in between a seperate tier or cupcake tree with a tiny vegan cake on top for cutting

    Why not get both cakes? But a smaller vegan cake.
