March 2012 Weddings

what did yall do?

When addressing envelopes did yall print the name on the envelope.  Put them on labels then on the envelope.  Or did someone write them. Did yall use a stamp??

Im not sure how to do them so I want to see what everyone else did.

On the guest how did you address the guest.  Also on the return label is it your name or your parents.  Since I have done almost EVERYTHING for my wedding im wondering If I should put my name or my parents.  My parents have paid for half of the stuff but they really DONT care about anything.

Anyways, That is  my goal for this week getting the invitations ready.

Re: what did yall do?

  • I think my plan is to handwrite the To: addresses and then I have return labels that match my invites really well :)

Invites are the one thing I could give a crap about which is odd, but following rules about addressing is the last thing on my mind. So if that is what you are going for probably shouldn't take my response like the Bible haha.

And the returns are all coming to my house with my address.
  • I'm handwriting all. I would put the return address were you want gifts to go. I didn't do that with STDs and ended up annoyed when presents went to my parents' house over 1,000 miles away from where FI and I live. For the invites we're doing his parents address because they're an hour away from us and easy for them to store the presents until we move into a home that can comfortably house it all. Good luck!
  • I am handwriting them all... The return address on the envople is mine as well as the return card...

The outter is just Mr and Mrs. Hisfirst Lastname
Inside is: Everyone at that house hold first name
  • I will be handwriting my guests names on all of the envelopes. I have read that it's bad etiquette to use a stamp or labels for the guests names on the front of the envelope.

I will be putting my FI & my name on the return address. We haven't lived with our parents for 4 years, and they aren't paying for anything, so there's no way their names are going on the return address or RSVP envelopes (I will be using labels for those though).

  • I'm using labels. I don't care if it looks bad, I'm saving time! And my hardwriting is aweful!
  • I don't write to pretty. I thought labels would look better. But I didn't know that's why I was asking lol. I bet it would save time

  • After all of this I asked FI what kind of printer we had so I can order labels and he says why don't we just print then on the envelope. Umm Idk why I didn't even try that yet.

  • I wrote all the addresses on the envelopes by hand. It took forever! If you did clear labels, I don't think it would bad. I've seen clear labels with a really pretty font and thought it looked fine. We used our address for the return address and the RSVPs.

This for me as well.  My handwriting is terrible.  Plus, I'm not spending a ton of money having someone else write them for me when all anyone is going to do is throw them away.
  • The company we used prints the both addresses on the invites and return RSVP envelopes. If we want to write names on the inner envelope though, we'll need to do that ourselves. I'm still deciding whether or not I'll do this. We've since added another guest to our list that wasn't on the original list we sent to the invitation company a couple months ago, so we'll have to write their address. It's a good thing we got extras! :) If not printing on the envelopes, I'd definitely hand address them. I'm not normally a wedding etiquette stickler, but I do agree with this one. I just don't think labels look good on wedding invitations. It's definitely a personal preference I guess, but that's what I'd recommend.

  • Well I actually had a nightmare regarding this today...

I had printed all the addresses on my STDs and they came out fabulous and had planned to do the same with my wedding invitations. I finished all the small RSVP card envelopes today and went to move on to the invitations. However, our invitations have thick envelope liners that we had glued in and needless to say, the printer destroyed the envelope. It got jammed and ink went everywhere. I guess the envelope is just too thick on its own to feed through. Three envelopes later I gave up :( I am going to have to go with another plan now.

My handwriting is awful! And I definitely do not think clear labels look good. So I think we might just shell out the $100 bux and have a calligrapher do them. I only have 70 invites to send out...

  • Another idea if you have thinner envelopes is to print it straight on the envelope in a real cute font in a real, real light color and then go over it with a dark pen to make it look like it's hand-written. I think that's what I'm going to do... and then I bought a custom stamp for the return address on the back of the invitations and for the RSVP envelopes.

  • I handwrote all my outer and inner envelopes, and my RSVP and outer envelopes have my address already printed on them.

I included most of my RSVP envelopes with the forever wedding stamp, but honestly, all the local ones and ones I'm hand delivering (and wedding party) aren't going to get a stamp. That cut my postage cost down pretty dramatically :)
  • I had them printed on the envelope in a font that looks like handwritten calligraphy.

  • I have terrible handwritting, so FI has offered to write out all of our invites (he's hadn writting is way better).  Proper etiquette says to hand write your addresses for wedding invitations, so that is what we are going to do.  We are just using forever stamps for our invites.
