Tricare prime select

Does any one have it? Or know anything about it?

FI can't find the thing they sent him when he got it. He hasn't had to use it yet and so he can't tell me if its good or not

I can stay on my mom's until I'm 26. She is okay with this but thinks I should get my own. I can get some through target if I get hired on permantly.

I'm just trying to decide if I should get FIs or not

Get your FI's. It's very inexpensive and much better than most private group insurance packages. There's downsides to either, but it'll cost a lost less per month than what your Mom will have to pay for you, most likely.

I didn't think you could stay on your parents insurance once you were married.. But I'm not up on all that jazz.

I have Tricare Prime and I love it. The only thing I'm on currently is Singulair and BC and I pay less than $20 a month for both. I'm not sure about Select... but I am really impressed with Tricare as a whole.

I gotta learn myself up on having Tricare as my secondary. Supposedly it should cover my copays, which would be so banging. Kendall, I clearly have no experience using it, so I'm not help. threadjack over.

I am with Sami here, as I didn't think you could be married (dependent of someone else) and still be on your parents insurance. However, I am not an insurance expert so I don't know for sure.

I have Tricare Standard. I have not used it yet so I don't know anything about it. I like Irish need to brush up. I typically only go to the doctor once a year for "that visit" and to the dentist and neither of those have come up since I was added to Tricare.

Sami- You can now stay on your parents medical insurance until you are 26, married or not (obama changed that last year), dental goes away at 22 or marriage, however.

You can be married and have kids and still be on your parents. At least thats what I was told.

Yeah, as a former insurance agent, I'm gonna go with no, you cannot have ins. under your parents if you're married.

EDIT: I forgot about the new Obama plan. Yes, up until 26 you can. Wow, where the hell was this when I was 21-26

Yeah, it's great news for us kiddos... My mom is just leaving me on hers until I turn 26 since it's not costing her a lot, and she has great insurance. Tricare requires everything to be bills to the private insurance first, before being billed to them though. (I think to save the gov money... Although it does them no good in my case, since my mom's insurance is blue cross federal.. haha (gov civilian insurance))

HAA!!!
I had blue cross state plan and it was not really that great here in this state. Really high rates for a not a lot of things. Dental was pretty awesome. When I canceled and went on to H's insurance plan it was like I got a raise in my pay check.

Crown stop being my twin! I got rid of the sc state plan as soon as I got married. Also, I was on my parents insurance until 26 as long as I was in school full time. It was awesome

I dropped my Mom's terrible insurance the first chance I got.

I also find this post HILARIOUS, since Kendall has problems living with her parents....but not using their insurance. That is, if I thought she was real.

My mom's insurance is crap but I know nothing about tricare. I didn't know if it was better or worse. The only reason I am going to stay on it is for the dental. I've been seeing the same dentist since I was like 3. <div>

If it wasn't a good environment for you to be in, wouldn't that imply that you do actually have an issue with them? I'm not trying to pick on you, that comment just makes no sense to me.

Also, I don't know much about Tricare, but have you looked into whether or not you could keep the same dentist with different insurance? It's not like they only take one form of insurance.

I have Tricare Standard/Extra. I don't have much to say about it right now since I haven't used it yet, but I have my first doctors' appointment next week. I am using the Extra option because I went with a network provider, lower copays this way. I'll let you know what I think of it then, if you remind me.

I'm also still under my mom's insurance but had I have to start using Tricare now since my old insurance was a state plan but it was a really good one though, we had very low copays. My mom never even paid for anything but $100 for her open heart surgery! I'm hoping Tricare will be good too.

I will say that I was on Standard before moving from Minnesota and I decided to have my Pap before I left and had to pay around $30 my previous med clinic charged me a visit when I went in to get my medical charts as well which I paid another $30ish for. I told Tricare not to pay it etc. but they did anyway. Still way better than my previous insurance but obviously more than Prime. Although our current base has a Med Clinic it is not very large, I haven't had ANY problems getting referrals either. (for the Colonoscopy). I Hope you have the same experience. :)

Traffic just gets so bad here, H left at 530am this morning and didn't get to work til 715! So he was 15mins late due to traffic, it isn't that bad everyday but it does suck. So I kinda just went on a tangent there, lol. I love my new PCM. However, since my H is a pilot and on flying status I get to use Flight Medicine. My PCM is actually a Woman in my H's squad. She is leaving soon so we will see how I like the new doc. :) She was able to tell me Docs to stay away from (1 out of several). TBH If I had to drive an hour or so I probably wouldn't... but I have a script that is a PITA to get filled (I have to call the nurse/PCM to get a written script mailed to me, then bring it to the pharmacy at which point then need to call and confirm it with the nurse doc... which usually ends up in a 30min trip during reg. clinic hours-- which was almost impossible when I worked.) She was willing to give me 2 months at once and since the Clinic has a pharmacy it's now SUPER easy for me.

-- I never had to get a new script while on BC during the Pap the doc would give me one plus the refills to tide me over until the next year. If that is the case for you then you are talking about 1 doctor visit which could either support your decision to switch to Prime (only have to make the drive once) or not support... you only have to pay the copay once. LoL sorry no help here :)

FTR I didn't have a choice to stay on Standard. I literally got a letter from TriCare saying I was now on Prime and to call the clinic to get a PCM.

Another reason I like what I'm on now is because I can have any doctor I'd like to choose, so if I hate this upcoming one I have I can easily see another one of my liking for next time.
